Do any other conferences have this many legends and very successful modern coaches?

Now that's a great question. I mean Weber is probably one of the 'worst' coaches in our league and he has at least two elite 8's right? Boynton is better than people think. The new Tech coach is amazing.

I haven't kept up enough but we know ACC has coach K and Boheim but what else? B1G, not even close to Big 12 IMO. Simply amazing what every team goes against each night in the Big 12.

Hard to say. Admittedly, I can only focus on so much college basketball during the season so it is usually centered around the big 12, and maybe catching the occasional Iowa game. It does seem like the big 12 has the who's who of college head coaches top to bottom

Just doing a search for curiosity and coaches/conference that I consider good or at least have sustained success:

SEC is strong but the same ratio, i.e. half the conference.

B1G: Izzo and....Painter? Underwood? Too soon for Howard
ACC: Coach K, Tony Bennett, Boeheim.
SEC: Oates, Bruce Pearl, Tom Krean, Frank Martin, Rick Barnes, Buzz Williams, Calipari.
Big 12: Self, Moser, Weber, Drew, Beard, Dixon

I said when TJ was hired that ISU was going to have to recruit top two or three in conference if we want to finish midpack because I knew we'd be outcoached so much.
Can we not do this? That was one of the least enjoyable games I've sat through in Hilton, but no way am I gonna jump to the "TJ is out of his league" conclusion after what we've witnessed over the course of the season.

The offense created more than enough good looks to avoid the embarrassment we witnessed today.... Yet we missed wide open looks and bunnies all day long. Players need to make plays.

And the shift to teams that basically have players that look like defensive ends makes it extra grueling especially for a rebuild.

Things I just don't understand:

1. The Offense - This high post stuff with George and Robert at the top of the key is dumbfounding. The only time George should have the ball in his hand is when he is catching a lob or grabbing a rebound. We thought Prohm's offense was bad but this offense is rivaling it, then add on that no one wants to take a shot and we have to have Gabe chuck something up before we get a shot clock violation.

Then we just pass it around the 3 point line, how about someone (anyone) drive to the basket. It opens things up - all you have to do is watch TT and TCU drive then pass to cutters for easy baskets.

But then when we do drive we get 3' from the basket we kick it out to miss a 3. TAKE THE EASY PLAY, quit making things harder than they need to be.

2. The rotation - Enuruna had 3 straight excellent defensive possessions and then we sub him out and never play him again. Jaz right now is doing nothing for us, he is WAY to passive on offense and won't shoot unless he has 10' of free space around him. The combination of Tyrese and Tre on the floor at the same time has been good, need this more.

3. The no point guard offense - Whoever had this bright idea needs to be fired asap. We did it against TT and they blew the game open. We did it in the first half against TCU and they pulled away when we did it.

4. Is TJ scared of the officials? Is there a jar that he has to put money in if he yells at the officials? I'm not saying be a maniac but when there are obvious horrible calls you need to tell the officials to pull their heads out of their asses.

5. It's ok to run off a defensive rebound, we don't have to play slow all the time, it's ok to attack.

YES to almost all of this.

I don't get Enuruna. They've ****** around with him all year. I figured it was effort on defense earlier in the year that got him benched. But today? He played his ass off to start the 2nd half and he never saw the ******* floor again. He could be one player we run the offense through.

I also don't get the god damn no PG thing that has been going on the last 2 games. I didn't realize that we did this in the first half. Maddening. I get that TJ doesn't like Tre, but for ****'s sake, he's better than no PG.

Also at some point a shooter has to hit shots. Caleb is a junior and not making shots in multiple games becomes unacceptable. I know Matt Thomas kind of had this happen, but by his junior year he was hitting shots.

Well I think we are seeing that he was not the offensive specialist as an assistant for previous coaches. And some of his rotations and subbing is very confusing.

The Enaruna usage is one of the more baffling things I've witnessed. And that's after sitting thru the Prohm tenure. Not to mention the recent "zero point guard" strategy he's trotting out on occasion

I thought early on in the season it was a strength but yeah lately it's been pretty weird.

I'd like to see what he has by like year 3 for players before really seeing what's possible offensively.

Choosing to be heavy on defense for this group in order to have a chance was the right move, haha.

You think TJ is really that bad?
I won't say bad, he's clearly done a great job building a culture and team identity. I am concerned that so far teams have been able to adjust to ISU's gameplans and haven't consistently seen many counterpunches in conference. As of right now, I think it is fair to say he'll get better in that regard but out-recruiting teams will probably be a big piece of the puzzle as he's up against a gauntlet of coaches night in and night out in the B12.

He didn't set the world on fire at UNLV. That should have been a concern no matter how many best friends he had in Ames and Ankeny.

But on the other side, this team this year is a bunch of misfits who until this week had really played well. TJ deserves a ton of credit for that.

Yeah I don't get the Enuruna stuff at all. He starts the 2nd half with 3 great defensive plays then immediately goes to the bench for Grill and Jaz who I can't remember the last time they had significant contributions.

Like don't you think that we could run some offense through Enaruna? He can't possibly be as bad on offense as the crap we trotted out there today.

for the record i myself did not mean i think tj is bad; just that he is young, going against extremely experienced, extremely talented coaches every night in his first big 12 season, with probably the least talent of any team in the conference.

Yes we can. In fact, today TCU would drive then pass to a baseline cutter. We've done that with Enaruna and should be doing it more.

I don't agree with your last part, TCU's talent didn't impress me and Kstate doesn't have better talent.
