In the wake of Lincoln Riley’s departure from Oklahoma on Sunday, seven OU recruits from the 2022 and 2023 classes decommitted from the program. All seven players were four-star or five-star recruits.

The headliner? 2023 five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson.

Nelson, who lives in Los Alamitos California, announced his decommitment within hours of Riley’s departure. On Monday, Nelson announced that he was committing to USC, Riley’s new school.

Depending on who OU gets as coach, they will probably get a couple/few recruits back, so the net effect won't be as dreadful as it looks now.

I think this is the future of college football. Makes it harder for non blue blood teams to hire a future superstar coach. When that coach leaves, it will be devastating to the team he leaves behind. I wonder if it starts to affect who gets hired.

I'm sensing that Brent Venables will not be OU's head coach. He's spent the last week with Dabo lining up Clemson recruits. Why would he do that if headed to Norman?

So, that cuts the "obvious" field to Dave Aranda, Matt Rhule, and maybe Luke Fickell. Or perhaps they'll pull someone like USC and LSU has, a big surprise.

Has Out recouped any lost recruits since Venables hire? How is Venables doing on the recruiting front for Out? He seems like he'll be a good head coach, has the pedigree, but never a head coach before.

How he recruits and if he can retain some of the lost ones will make a strong opening statement on how he does at Out IMO.

I think Bob Stoops was more instrumental in stopping the recruit bleeding at OU. Most of Clemson's best current commits' are on the defensive side of the ball. If any move over to OU it would be a big win for Venables. Someone like a Jihaad Campbell

I have been reading that LSU has been losing players since they hired Kelly. Rather than gain. Seems the LSU players and recruits don't want to play for him. I believe at this point they might not even have a QB left for the bowl and possibly not for next year. Depending on Red shirt status. Which is another interesting nugget.

To me it seems possible that Riley had been setting up several of his more recent recruits to be followers to USC, Possible but no one will ever know for sure. But it is yet to be seen also if OU will fill all of those lost.

Now Bowlsby is advocating to get rid of the early signing date, because of how it is effecting coaching hires and transfers etc prior to finishing the season.

Some interesting story lines from all the ripple effects of the years events.
