You have to realize when Purdy plays well that's Purdy doing great things. If Purdy plays poorly it's because Manning ruined him.

Eh….neither one of them were consistent enough this year to help each other. Just overall the offense is really ineffiecent and they put Brock in bad spots over and over again and tried to turn him into something he’s not

and in the other hand, brock just didn’t make enough good throws to help Tom out enough to cover up his limitations as a coordinator

it was just a bad combo that never gelled

Real issue to me, is continuing to get offensively skilled players in here to play in that mess

Manning calls a pretty conservative and bland game, but I am not so certain that isn't what CMC wants. I really hope to see an offense next year that stretches the field. I think the long pass to X was the only attempt over 30 yards.

I didn't hear when we lost Newell. But to me our o-line has been the issue in games where we struggled offensively. Purdy is a solid QB, but he needs a clean pocket. Otherwise, he tries to do too much and while he is a crafty runner- he isn't going to run away from elite DL or LB's.

That run on 3rd and 10 is reason enough to fire him.

I think there's maybe one or two people on this board equipped to judge playcalling, the rest of it is just caveman level analysis play good = good, play bad = bad. But decisions can be judged and that's the one that's tough to defend. You could see Kolar's exasperation when he got the call.

I think this is the answer. I don't expect CMC to move on from Manning, but I do think they'll work together to make significant changes to the offense.

My #1 hope is that Iowa State moves on from Manning, but I also will admit it almost assuredly won't happen.

So, I think a big key for me next year will be seeing growth from Manning and that will involve throwing more on first downs, especially using quick hitters to X and Noel (who is a real difference maker IMO). Use that as an extension of the run game as I won't believe the O-line will be dominant enough to open holes at will until I see it.

Dial up deep shots earlier and more often, you don't need to even hit them but the threat will open up more room to work with in the run game. Really, just don't willingly make the game so damn hard on your players.

Did Manning answer questions after the game like

why didn’t we try and get a first down on a lot of third downs?
Why do we only try and get half the yards on third and ten or 3rd and 15

why did we run the ball on 3 and ten with a play designed to go 4 yards

For those of you who want Manning gone, be careful what you ask for.

If he can change a few things, he could be great. But that list has a lot to do with Iowa State having all-conference players at QB/WR/RB/TE. Those guys are put in less than ideal situations and overcome them in most games. Doesn't mean those situations cannot be improved upon. I expect Manning back, and hope he gets better at some things that are clearly becoming predictable for defenses.

I get it, but this feels like one of those "lies, damned lies, and statistics" kind of statistics. Did anyone trust this offense, at any point, to grind out a TD drive when we really need one? Did anyone trust this offense to grind out three yards on an important third down? Did anyone believe for one second we were going to drive 95 yards and score on Clemson to tie the game?

I'm tired of the offense being AWOL for half or 3/4 of every other game.

I am very hopeful this happens, as I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell Manning is gone. He and Campbell still have a lot of coaching ahead of them so I hope Manning can evolve as an OC and get more aggressive in some specific areas.

I hope so, because you can't preach accountability and let this go on. As much as this program has improved, we've left a lot of wins out on the field, almost always due to offensive ineptitude.

I'd like to think that with the transition to dekkers, we will see a completely new offensive scheme. Some change may be refreshing.
My big hope/sort of expectation is that with Dekkers having a bigger arm (I'm not saying better, yet) there will be a bigger downfield element to the offense. That and an adjustment to throw more often on 1st and I'll be a happy camper. Outside of a few teams that can consistently dominate the line of scrimmage play in and play out, it is far more efficient to throw on first down and I believe it's going to be a similar movement to 3s and layups like we've seen in basketball over the past decade, albeit likely not as big of an advantage.

Actually, I think Manning called a good game tonight. Yes, there were some head scratchers but several plays had WRs wide open. Just didn’t execute the play. Brock seemed like he was pressing a bit and the OL play wasn’t good.

We lost to Iowa due to turnovers and poor special teams
We lost to Baylor due to absolutely atrocious special teams
Defense did not play well vs Tech or WVU
Offense did not play well tonight (with one hand tied behind their back)

Im not calling for manning to be coach of the year, but those saying fire him are being ridiculous

Well just wait for next year then. If you thought tonight was bad I’ve got news
Next year we'll have the same post after 3 or 4 games at least and people will again be saying "well outside of the games the offense underperforms, they perform pretty well! So you're all dumb for saying let Manning go!" IMO he's going to need to change or at least alter a large part of his philosophy if the Cyclones will hit their ceiling as a program. Not saying he can't or won't, but that he needs to if Iowa State wants to keep building upon the success they've had.
