I hat Urb as much as the next guy but to be fair, how many coaches have successfully made the jump from college to the NFL? Pete Carroll is one of the few I can think of.

There are plenty of college assistants who move over to the NFL and up from there. YOu just don't see it often from college head coaches. Most owners understand that the jobs are different enough that the skill sets aren't interchangeable.

It's true. And there have been some collosal flameouts. I'm not sure many have gotten the hook faster than Urban though. Not more than a couple, anyway.

Saban wasn't a bad HC in the NFL in my opinion. He almost made the playoffs his second season. I remember they were choosing between Culpepper and Brees in free agency and chose the wrong one. Had they picked Brees instead, he might still be coaching in the NFL.

Brees had a bum shoulder. Dolphins doctors failed him on his physical. Saban said **** the physical, I want Brees. Dolphins FO felt the better move was Culpepper.

Saban left the next year.

The good news for us is that NFL teams are going to be more hesitant at looking at college coaches to fill their HC vacancies.

I honestly don't blame the FO for being hesitant with Brees. I don't think many would have predicted that he would be able to recover like he did. The Dolphins already went through something similar with Chad Pennington and it didn't work out. The thing with Culpepper was that most of his success came from having Randy Moss to throw to.

Pete Carroll's done fine for sort of an "outpost" franchise (the interception on the goalline left a glowing mark however).

USC? Lol, they made even the cheaters blush.

Testifying
NO way he's done. His mind won't allow him to sit.
I could see him somewhere like UNC, WV, Louisville...

Oh yeah I get that, I was talking HC's.

LOL yeah, Urb getting the hook is probably a new record.

He may not want to be done but I don't see many P5 schools rolling the dice on him. I could actually see him take a MAC type job in a few years though.

Not exactly sure.

Culpepper was a early style dual threat QB. He was bulky but could still move. QBs didn't run much in his day so when he hurt one of his wheels and became less mobile, it hampered his ability. Also, I agree the randy moss situation helped severely. You couldn't out throw him so if in trouble just do a few hail marys a game to him and you will put up some points.

Anyone think this decision was made prior to the "big" college vacancies were filled...but the Jags held off so Urb couldn't get one of those jobs? If so, a bit vindictive but I would love it to be true!

The new reality in college football may encourage somebody to back up the Brinks truck and take a flyer on him though. A lot of ADs are acting like their programs are at the precipice these days.

Urban probably sits this year out and waits for the Texas job to open up once Sark is fired (which I think is likely).

His ego is way too inflated to take any college job that isn't a blue blood. Look for him at SC in a few years if LR crashes and burns.

I don't think LR crashes there...but that is the only gig I could see the Urb going after! Texas would pay well...but he would have to compete against Saban and I could see him taking a pass on that!

Texas only cares about image, that is the school I could see Urban landing at. They have the bags of money to help also.
