I believe there was a huge blizzard that hit most of the state the week before the semis in 93 or 94 that forced all of the eastern teams to play in the Dome and all the western teams played in the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

That was the impetus to move the semifinals indoors.

That was the year that Halloween in NW got cancelled. I want to say it was either 90 or 91. My father in law and I were just talking about this tailgating at the Texas game and he thought I was crazy when I said that USD hosted some Iowa playoff games.

Finals started in '76 -- which I think was the year it opened.

Semis moved there around '96.

Semi's haven't been there since 96. I think that's happened in the last 10 years. They may have hosted some semi's for games on that side of the state but it definitely wasn't all of them.

As bad or worse than the weather are the fields. My last year I had more rug burns from playing on our home field, which was basically frozen mud by that point, than I got playing in the dome, and that was in the 90s when the Dome turf was terrible.
Yeah, when I was playing our practice field was basically hard dirt by the end of the season. Our field typically held up ok but it would get really dry and rough.

Not exactly sure.
What part of the state where you in? In NW IA I remember it starting out with some sleet/ice but we got over a foot of snow.
91 was an ice storm in dead north central iowa, northern Winnebago county My parents were without power for several days and I was at ISU and it wasn't much.

Yeah I can remember a couple of those but I'm 100% positive this was a different weather event. That Halloween blizzard nail the entire upper midwest.

89 was quite a bit of snow (around 85 was also). I was a senior and I remember going to party and happy that I didn't have to play in that.

Heck of a start to the 3A game. Looks like could be a good one.

I asked the wife and she said the massive ice storm was 91. My sister lived a couple of miles outside of town and didn't have power for about 2 weeks.

How is that DL going to Iowa? Saw the kid training here at a gym in Ames a while back, and he's a freakin' monster.
They said on the broadcast that Iowa offered him as a freshman, the earliest they had offered a kid.

Yeah, I remember because it was a follow up to the crappy farm year of 91. Folks told me not to come home so I wouldn't freeze to death.

I mean HS officiating in general is pretty bad because no one wants to do it anymore but they have no idea how to properly officiate the passing game.

If I were a D coordinator I'd hit the receivers on every play and make them throw flags. They don't seem to be willing to do it.
