Seems like it's more about wresting control from ESPN. I know they're locked at the hip, but once the CFP goes to the open market and other players are free to bid, ESPN's clout shrinks pretty quick.
That too.

Agree. It also says nothing about the expansion or changes in that regard. It doesn’t mean it is or isn’t going to happen. It’s a step to keep The SEC and ESPN in check.Assume they'll be hitting the brakes on CFP expansion for now.
Don’t tell the people on this website that.. The B1G and PAC literally came out right away saying they will not make any rash decisions when it comes to expanding, yet our fanbase is melting down that the PAC and B1G haven’t made a rash decision.Agree. The PAC talked about going to 8 conference games. So I could see that.People.. the B1G is subtracting a conference game to add a game against alliance schools. Iowa State vs. Iowa isn’t going anywhere.
It’s sure feeling that way. Still hoping the Pac 12 expands 4 more teams and the Big 10 two more. I’m still not convinced it happens. We’ve lost our 3 biggest games every year in the last month. Guess our rivals now are UNI with marquee games against UCF. We are ******.

Iowa vs Iowa State will not exist if we don’t land in the Pac or Big. That would be also the least of our concerns at that point.
If that happens I bet we would play 10 or even 11 conference games in a new-look Big 12, because the B1G/Pac/ACC would be only playing itself plus buy games and the SEC would likely be doing something similar - only playing itself plus buy games. So there wouldn’t be non-con options that would be good for us. We could expand to 12 and play a round robin with room for one buy-game tune-up. CFB could look very very different soon.
The viability of ESPN is the crutch that's holding them up. ESPN has mortgaged the house on this move. My gut says their model for increasing viewership is risky. Especially, when the rest of CFB holds the cards to CFP. There's still so much left out there none of us know about.ISU is a member of a dying conference, Mizzou is not. So again, why would Mizzou leave the SEC to move to the big 10 after being in the conference for ten years. I get they wanted to get into the conference 10 years ago, but times have changed and they are in a good place. So why would they leave? They wouldn't, so to answer your question, ISU is available and willing to move, while Mizzou in neither available or willing to leave the SEC.
Iowa may very well want to get rid of the Iowa-Iowa State game but they would be about the only ones. If the primary goal of the Alliance is to counter a perceived SEC move to Super Conferences or a Super League AND if the Big XII is left to fend for itself, it is still in the interest of the Alliance conferences to make room at the table for the Big XII. That would further isolate the SEC and maintain the traditional structure of college football. Our athletic directors need to work up a plan to add some schools and we need to show that the rest of the teams do play at a Power 5 level. If the PAC or B1G do decide to add teams, we would be at the top of the list compared to our Big XII brothers. If any of the Remaining 8 accepts a bid from another conference, the Big XII is done. I assume The Alliance will be discussing whether it is in their interest or the interest of college football generally for the Big XII to continue. I believe there is a good argument for multiple conferences providing broad fan support, opportunity for bowl match-ups, etc. They would be subtracting a conference game and adding two non conference games (one Pac 12, one ACC)
IF this deal actually went through as advertised
IF ISU was still not in the Pac 12, Big 10, or ACC
then the ISU/Iowa game will be no more unless ISU agrees to play in Kinnick every year.
Those are some very big ifs however, I wouldn't get too concerned yet
As a bears fan i can assure dave wandstadt doesn’t know ****.
Would be great to track down this audio. Dave Wannstedt is not some random guy; he is on FOX college football studio shows. He might actually know something and ended up saying something that should have stayed private, but I would like to hear it myself.
