I think ESPN’s hope was probably up the payout in the AAC (they could double it and it would still be only about half what Big 12 teams get) to convince enough of the screwed teams like Baylor and TCU and KSU to jump ship because $20 million is better than their likely futures, then have the conference dissolve.
Or Fox would also sue ESPN. They just devalued their Big XII property.

If the Big 12 actually has the 'evidence' they claim they have, this could be a serious lawsuit. I believe the Big 12 can not only sue for the GOR money, but for future damages. This could be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, approaching money that the two athletic departments dont have. Seems like ESPN is the puppet master behind all of this though, I just cant believe they didnt cover their tracks better. They have an army of lawyers who had to have known the risks here.
What if A&M insiders passed along the back channel discussions from ESPN to Bowlsby? They are absolutely still pissed about Texas, so I could see someone trying to torpedo this whole situation.

You’re joking right?

To be fair, Disney did buy some of Fox properties. I don’t specifically know the breakdown of what was bought (I think the movie studio as well as television shows like the simpsons), but it’s a fair question.

This is turning in to something like a crazy HBO or NetFlix mini-series. I hope there's a happy ending for us and the rest of the spurned 8.

If fox jumps into the action and sues ESPN this is gonna get all sorts of spicy.
Don’t rule it out. ESPN is trying to corner the College Football market. If OU and Taxas had gone to the B1G Fox might have stood down. Many pieces still in play. The Worldwide Leader, the Traitors and the $EC got sloppy and they may have to pay.
