The terms, specifically regarding potential previous violations, are incredible. His agent earned his 10% on this one.

The new contract features several references to Big 12 and NCAA violations, including a clause that specifically outlines that KU "will not terminate Head Coach for cause due to any current infractions matter that involves conduct that occurred on or prior to the date of full execution of this Agreement." I like the rolling contract idea. It makes sense and takes away pressure from the AD to get something in place right away after a successful season and make a big announcement so the masses are at ease.

KU knows the NCAA isn’t going to do anything about the Adidas stuff, the clause doesn’t say they can’t fire him for future violations.

Interim AD hires Self, interim AD gives him a lifetime contract...
KU apparently went to the Gary Barta School of Negotiating Against Yourself.
That's just fantastic. This gives me a really great feeling about their search for a new AD and then a new head coach for football. Assuming they go in that order, that is.

Agree. Isn't the buyout figure more meaningful for KU vs. them thinking the 'lifetime contract' would effect Self's decision to move on?
This is purely for recruiting so that recruits know for certain that he will be there regardless of the ncaa case. Self has no desire to move on from Kansas.

There is no such thing as a lifetime contract in reality. They can fire him anytime they want, he will leave anytime he wants. Money will be exchanged.

True, just that this doesn't have a hard expiration date like a normal contract.

I wonder how Fennelly's is set up?
