I'm with your wife on this one.

We have a maintenance plan through C&K in Ames. They come out in the spring to service the AC and in the fall to service the furnace. If we have a breakdown we have priority (along with other maintenance plan customers) over Joe Citizen that only calls when they break down. It has been useful...
I'll have to look into that. C&K couldn't get out to us until tomorrow, but Hometown Heating and Cooling in Ellsworth got us in around lunch time today so hopefully it'll be fixed before my fussy wife gets home.

Because of the grit in dishwasher detergent. It etches your glasses and silverware turning them dull. It destroys the edge on a knife. I don't want my nice shiny pots all dulled up by that grit.
Makes sense, I suppose. Especially if you are only cooking for yourself most of the time.

Having spent years cooking for a horde, I guess that's not as important to me. The crystal glasses and silver flatware should always be handwashed (and that's why I told my sisters they could have all our mother's good stuff), but for me, plates, stainless steel flatware, pots, everyday glasses, etc...screw it. The dishwasher is my best friend. :)

We use the dishwasher for everything except pots and pans and a few of our best knives. There may also be a few things that aren't really dishwasher safe. Everything else is fair game. Haven't really noticed any issue with our stainless flatware in 20 years, but the cloudy glassware is real.

Not exactly sure.

I screwedup and during harvest last year didn’t get salt in the softener right away, glasses took a beating with cloudiness. Starting to clean up but probably need to do the vinegar bath to clean them up.

I have tried the vinegar thing but these are truly etched so it doesn't really do much good. We have really hard water so the softener only does so much good.

Cloudy glasses is why I only use Finish Quantum brand. Also use the rinse agent, but Quantum was the only type or brand that worked several years ago after getting our then-new dishwasher. So I keep buying it.

We have been using Cascade Platinum and the cloudiness doesn't happen anymore. The only things I don't put in the DW are the wood-handled kitchen knives, my crystal highball glasses, and the newer pots and pans.

Also a platinum user. And my glasses are getting better now that we are on rural water instead of our high mineral content well.

Yesterday the outdoor temperature part of our indoor-outdoor thermometer stopped working. Don't know whether that's a good thing or bad. New batteries in both units didn't help, neither did reading the directions.
Guess a trip to Ace Hardware is in order.

It's OK, you don't want to know anyway.

I did see an oriole at our hummingbird feeder this afternoon. Haven't seen them since spring, so I put a feeder with grape jelly out. It's probably grape juice already.

Our hummers, cardinals, and goldfinches are all still around as well as miscellaneous wrens, sparrows, and woodpeckers, but I haven't seen grosbeaks and orioles since last spring. :(
