AC went out at my house yesterday morning. Can’t get anyone here until tomorrow or Tuesday. Wife is sleeping at her parents house with the dog tonight since it’s 90 degrees in my house. Meanwhile, I’m thriving.
Our AC went out on Saturday. The maintenance plan people said they couldn't get anybody here until September 1. I discussed the issue with 3 different neighbors. The consensus was that it was probably the capacitor. Good news - It turned out to be a fuse in the disconnect. It cost $11.89. It would have been free if I'd waited until September 1. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the inside protective cover off of the disconnect.

When you empty the dishwasher, do you completely empty it and then load the current dirty dishes or do you do a rack, load the dirty dishes in that rack and then empty the other and load the other. I completely empty and then load. My wife does it rack by rack and I think it’s odd. Who is the odd dishwasher person?
Your wife is the odd one concerning the dishwasher, empty then refill.
Nope. If there are a lot of dirty dishes, I pull out and empty the bottom rack, then fill with dirty. Next pull out and empty the top rack, then refill. Glasses (top rack) are going in the cupboard just above the dishwasher, so it's quicker anyway. There's no cross-contamination or drips on clean dishes this way.
As always, the lesson is that girls are weird. @ImJustKCClone is the exception that proves the rule in this case.

I should add I am getting a new roof put on today. Pretty sure they'll do it all in one day even though there is only 3 unless a couple more show up later after they have torn off the old one. It's going to be one hot day to be working on a roof. I ran over to Hy Vee and bought a 24 pack of water and a bag of ice and put it in a cooler in the garage.
I checked online and they say tipping a roofer isn't expected but if you want to tip then $10-$20 should be sufficient.

I think it's my capacitor as well. If not, it's the fan motor. I *could probably* do it all myself, but I want to make sure the condenser is fine. I'm hoping to get a call back this morning from one of the HVAC places.

I had to get freon pumped into mine last July and by September I needed it again. Being that it was late in the year and I was going out east I just turned it off. For as hot as it's been I'm so glad I replaced the whole thing in March.

It's evidently pretty tough for a non HVac person to find a lot of AC capacitors, at least at a decent price.

Not exactly sure.
One of the school attendees always forget something. This year it was the wife. Not sure how many years in a row I’ve chased buses, ran into schools or hit bus stops on the first day.

We had fans going and the windows open. The hottest it got in the house was 88 but it didn't really bother me. My wife on the other hand has been super cranky.

Most likely, they are paid by the square (100 SF of roofing) rather than by the hour. This encourages them to work faster. And don't worry, they're getting paid enough. The water is a thoughtful gesture, though.

Not exactly sure.
School just called and said my daughter was counted absent from school for the first day. She was taking a test for an online class this morning because she had an email from the principal telling her not to come in if she has online classes. This after a 10 pm email from the guidance counselor asking her what class she wanted for 6th period. Not giving options, just asking. They put one of her onlines at 7 period which they went her to go home to take, and if they make her take a 6th period, that gives her about 20 minutes for a college online class. Her school has banned study halls for some asinine reason.

Guidance isn't exactly what I would call what she is receiving. I'm starting to understand the home schoolers more and more. I'm getting frustrated having someone who has never been in the business or self-employed world tell me what is or isn't important and how it works when I've spent time on both sides and now the difference.

I haven't used my dishwasher in years. I won't put pots, pans, glasses, silverware or knives in it so what's the point?
Tip them? Water & Ice?
Pshaw!

I made meals, brought cold lemonade, and provided tv & a place to sleep.

Okay...so Lew re-roofed our house...but still...

I'm with your wife on this one.

We have a maintenance plan through C&K in Ames. They come out in the spring to service the AC and in the fall to service the furnace. If we have a breakdown we have priority (along with other maintenance plan customers) over Joe Citizen that only calls when they break down. It has been useful...

Does anyone else have trouble with the new reaction icons (particularly the ones on the far right & far left of the display)? My cursor seems to slip off the line after the first one or two and I end up having to correct my reactions. Bah.
