I hear about em but quite frankly I'm tired of watching the crap. The news is such a biased industry and is fixated on giving the bad news, I choose not to watch.

So they aren't supposed to highlight a world wide pandemic that is causing chaos?

Should they be reporting on the happy ducks and geese floating around in my pond? That would be happy news but it also doesn't really matter.

And I'm asking this 100% honestly because I do not know-- is there evidence that this has lead to a closure of businesses and a stop in the spread?

It just seems to me like if you are still operating an in-person operation right now it's either because you are essential, or you aren't going to cave in to shutting down your business. I don't see how a shelter in place changes either of those. The people who are non-essential but are still operating aren't just going to shut their doors-- they are going to try to find a way to stay open.
Well those numbers are still coming in because the incubation period can be 2 weeks and it can also take time to receive back your test results, so we won't be able to see how effective this is for a little while in places like NYC. However, common sense would say these measures are drastically diminishing the spread of this virus. I believe people in San Fran stated they believe their stay at home mandate is working very well but they also put that mandate in place before a lot of other cities.

If you have less people coming into contact with one another, you slow the rate of spread, and don't allow hospitals to be overrun.

There’s been multiple people in this thread that have said their employers won’t shut down until mandated by Reynolds.

You sure those geese are happy? Never really seen a happy one, they always seem PO'd all the time.

Fair enough, I dont think it was seen as being worldwide numbers vs US.Some friends and I were just talking about how crazy it's getting. Some believed it's over hyped but I just figured I'd ask people here. Was honestly just asking a 3rd party.
I mean I understand that. We've never endured something along these lines as a society and it's easy to see how something like this could look like it's being blown out of proportion.

Yeah my business said if it gets mandated and we're not essential, everyone will work remotely. If somehow we are essential, they will send everyone home that can work from home. Funny that they haven't already done that though right? They're worried about worker continuity / time management.

I agree, but I think the difficulty lies in "mandated by Reynolds." I think most businesses will claim they fall under the "essential" definition. But you may weed a few out, which is better than nothing.

It's all coming into focus now-- you just want to work from home and can't until she says the magic words!

2 weeks is a long time. I only know of one person that had to get tested (came back negative), and they had results within a week

Lol if I were at a place that were taking this seriously and was actively taking the steps to make sure their employees were being safe, then I would feel a lot more comfortable here. It's the complete opposite.

Two people are out sick today, one of them missed yesterday as well, and both of them were absolutely hacking at their desk. My employers were talking and said if they feel better they can come to work.

Most of the people here could work from home if allowed, but no one is being allowed due to sheer ignorance of this situation.

From some of the people on here talking, that's kind of what I was assuming was the typical time, around 1 week

Something I've never understood with anti-media or anti-journo types. Yes, they report bad things. Yes, that's their job. Yes, that dominates a large chunk of news time.

Would those people rather not learn about global pandemics? Or 9/11s, international wars, leaders of our country saying stupid ****, etc? It's a necessary function of society. If people don't want to know current events, then fine -- don't. But pretending that willful ignorance is somehow superior is just asinine.
