I worry that Adams just set out to make a movie that pleased fans instead of actually trying to make a good movie. Which is a horrible way to go about making anything of value.

A New Hope told a satisfying and coherent story for its own sake and implied a larger universe with more stories to tell and more places for the characters to go.
Films that are just commercials for later films... excuse me... "setups"... are generally bad, or at least not nearly as satisfying as they could be with a complete story.
Have you seen ANYTHING that guy has made before?
That is what he does.
It is his thing as much as big dumb CGI explosion fests are Michael Bay's.
Disney bought themselves a Ferrari but it turns out they don't know how to drive a stick shift. They didn't really want it to drive, they wanted it to HAVE.
I could not get over my thought that Ryan Reynolds was doing the movie as a satire, and I couldn't continue watching. Hilariously roughNot gonna lie, 6 Underground is awesome in a campy explosion fest way. I loved all of it, especially the first 15 minutes. Don't @ me
Funny you say the bolded part when most Star Wars fans I know consider Empire Strikes Back to be the pinnacle of all the Star Wars movies. I kind of feel the same way as well, but it really was 100% a set-up for Return of the Jedi.
Trying to build on the original trilogy was a mistake, IMO. It was always going to be impossible to please so many people that invested so much into a franchise. Certain things could have been done better, but it would have still been divisive. Branching off to other story lines would have been the way to go, but the toothpaste is out of the tube already.
My biggest problem with the new trilogy is I have no understanding of "the first order" or "the resistance". They tell us nothing about how the first order came too be after the Empire fell apart.
This. This and them taking Finn's big moment away were my two biggest annoyances with the movie. Everything else was pretty par for the course with what I come to expect from Star Wars movies.Wow.
So far 58% on rotten tomatoes
Attack of the Clones is 66% on RT
let that sink in
I am still avoiding major spoilers and will watch it twice this weekend.
I watched TFA yesterday and will watch Last Jedi and JJ Abrams Star Trek 2009 too prepare.
My biggest fear before watching TFA and Last Jedi was they would have awful character arcs(8) or be a soft predictable reboot (7)
My biggest problem with the new trilogy is I have no understanding of "the first order" or "the resistance". They tell us nothing about how the first order came too be after the Empire fell apart. It's unbelievable, even for a sci fi fantasy movie, how powerful the first order is. I liked Rey Finn Poe and Kylo characters in TFA. Wasnt giddy with TFA but atleast they gave us likable characters. TLJ wasn't a complete disaster other then ruining Luke Skywalker who before TLJ was the mentally strongest Jedi as he was willing too give up his life rather then return too the Dark Side in RotJ.
I knew Rise of Skywalker was gonna be a mess. But not this bad.....![]()
I give the original a pass because im that type of guy. Obi wan does talk about anakin/Vader clone wars and briefly the rise of the empire. Every person that got wealthy of StarWars can thank the editors that saved that filmThe viewer's introduction to the Resistance and FO is identical to the Rebellion and Empire in A New Hope. If you appreciate the original trilogy I'm baffled how this is a problem for you now.

Disagree. That kind of introduction makes sense in a first movie, not in a movie where we already know the backstory and the empire was supposedly defeated. Was a flaw of this trilogy from the start
He asked Michael Bay about his characters backstory and it didn't have one haha. Also, I loved him alongside Ben Mendelsohn in Mississippi Grind. That was a movie I wished more people caught on toHe's doing the movie as Ryan Reynolds, which is what he always does.
