My experiences with combo devices are consistently horrible. Modem recommendations will be difficult because it depends on what ISP you use. I've had an Arris SB6190 for 2 years on Mediacom and have yet to have any issues with it at all. I use a Google WiFi as a router and will continue to answer everyone's router questions with 'buy a mesh system'.

I doubt you're going to be able to find a modem/router pair for anything short of $200, and I doubt you're going to be happy with what you wind up with at that price

When I upgrade in a few months I am definitely getting a mesh system. Can't wait to get it! I also have the SB6190 and has worked like a champ for 2+ years

Just received a $15/month discount for the next three months by talking to a "retention specialist" at Dish. That is a 25% discount off of what is left of my fixed rate two year contract. Worth the call if you have 20 minutes to wait on hold!

How easy is setup and management for the Google Mesh system? Similar to traditional networks?

I was having problems with the Fox Sports App on both Roku and Firetv using a Directv login (thanks mom and dad). Anyone else?

Wayyyy easier. But, as always, the easier you make something the more control you sacrifice.

You install the Google WiFi app on your phone and it walks you through the process of powering on the pucks and configuring them. The downside is the app is the only way to manage your network.

The beauty of OTT services is you don't have to talk to anyone to cancel. Login to account, "Cancel service".

Man this fight between Dish and Fox seems to be getting more dirty than in the past. Fox isn't telling people to call Dish and tell them they want Fox. They are telling Dish customers to leave Dish.

In Cedar Rapids, with South Slope - you don't need a modem.

Have an Orbi RBR40 mesh router (have the main router on one side of the house, upstairs, and the antennae on the other side of the house, downstairs). 2400 sq foot house and it all works great. Even works outside when I'm mowing. Whole system is $171 at Best Buy, right now.

We have Youtube TV, and usually have 2 phones, a tablet, a surface pro, 7 security cameras, 2 Alexas and 1 or 2 TV's streaming at all times - no issues at all.

BTW - just checked my internet speed, and it's 62.1 Mbps. Meaning, you can do all of this, without spending a fortune.

Its only going to get worse. The death rattle of the satellite services.

The only tape you'll need is maybe a little scotch tape to keep the battery cover on the remotes. The Roku ones always seem to break at our house.

Generally, streaming services work similar to DVRs. Add a show to your recordings or your library and it'll be available for a certain amount of time. Also, with YT.tv, when you select a sporting event, it asks if you want to schedule all games from a team or all games for that sport.

Yes, tailgating is still an issue with streaming. Internet is not good enough in the lots to stream and OTA doesn't seem to have many games anymore. Satellite was really nice for that.
