I think the 16-17 was the second best of that era. The Kane/Georges/Ejim was the best.
I would rank them...
(1.) "The Four Horsemen" year... Monté, Naz, Matt, Deonte, the four backcourt holdovers of the Hoiberg era, and then a few reinforcements here and there
(2.) "The BDJ Experience" year... some incredibly highs, but some incredibly lows at the same time, going from beating Kansas to losing to UAB in the same week
(3.) "The Prohman Legion" year... Georges' senior year, Nader breaking out, but without Naz this team never seemed to have quite enough horses
(4.) "The Big Three" year... the team led by Melvin, DeAndre, and Georges
#1 through #4 are really close to each other, though.
(5.) "The Royce White Experience"
(6.) ...and the Clyburn year
I know we all love the Big Three team, but I think you have to judge it on its total record throughout the year and on what actually happened. It had a very soft start to conference season, only going 11-7 in the end, and won a lot of close games. Teams that pull out close games are not usually as good as their record appears. Additionally, while I know they were playing well towards the end of the season, they benefited from an injury to Embiid, and we act like they won a championship sometimes, when, in reality, they were a Sweet Sixteen team.
I would have loved to have seen what would have happened with a healthy Georges, but we cannot assume that they automatically would have went much further.
