I think the 16-17 was the second best of that era. The Kane/Georges/Ejim was the best.

I would rank them...

(1.) "The Four Horsemen" year... Monté, Naz, Matt, Deonte, the four backcourt holdovers of the Hoiberg era, and then a few reinforcements here and there

(2.) "The BDJ Experience" year... some incredibly highs, but some incredibly lows at the same time, going from beating Kansas to losing to UAB in the same week

(3.) "The Prohman Legion" year... Georges' senior year, Nader breaking out, but without Naz this team never seemed to have quite enough horses

(4.) "The Big Three" year... the team led by Melvin, DeAndre, and Georges

#1 through #4 are really close to each other, though.

(5.) "The Royce White Experience"

(6.) ...and the Clyburn year

I know we all love the Big Three team, but I think you have to judge it on its total record throughout the year and on what actually happened. It had a very soft start to conference season, only going 11-7 in the end, and won a lot of close games. Teams that pull out close games are not usually as good as their record appears. Additionally, while I know they were playing well towards the end of the season, they benefited from an injury to Embiid, and we act like they won a championship sometimes, when, in reality, they were a Sweet Sixteen team.

I would have loved to have seen what would have happened with a healthy Georges, but we cannot assume that they automatically would have went much further.

I remember when they lost by like 20 at WVU and people were freaking out we'd miss the tourney. Good times.

Yeah....forgot about that one...'the kick'. Perhaps that was the dysfunctional loss but it was really the only loss that you just had to realize West Virginia was going nuts and ISU wasn't having a good night.

I think they started off 0-3 in conference or something too.

The only real knock on that team was that in a couple of losses, they were just really tight for whatever reason. The KU game in Hilton and the Sweet Sixteen game, specifically.

The best team of the recent run, and a possible NC with a healthy Georges plus Richard Armardi rather than KJ Bluford.

It’s crazy that team needed two Naz Long prayers away from avoiding 9-9 and tied for 6th. That’s Hoiball for you. Getting the bounces goes a long ways. The year before most went against them so the perception is a lot different.

As good as those 6 ncaa teams were, there was always a point where everyone would freak out about not making the tournament. All 6 years we weren’t close to a bubble team.

Disagree only on the 2012-2013 season. We had that home loss to KU where we got screwed....we were definitely a bubble team until later when we had a couple wins to secure things.

God that was a great time to be in KC.

People remember a team like that, winning close games and helping us all make indelible memories and presenting an all-time ISU what if scenario if Georges did not hurt his foot, and think that must have been a really great basketball team.

The analyst in me says, if they were really that good, they would not have had to pull so many games out of their *** in the first place. They should have won them comfortably. They did not have that tremendous of a record in the Big 12, too.

Do not get me wrong -- great basketball team. Loved every minute of that season.

I do not think they were quite as good as we give them credit sometimes, though. The per possession efficiency metrics did not like them as much as some of the other teams, and especially the team with all the senior guards two seasons ago.

And to show how messed up the preseason coach's poll is, Nebraska comes in at #25 and the BIG has the same number of teams ranked (4) as the Big 12 (4). Of course, if Nebby is a legit #25, then that bodes well for ISU!

I have no idea if there should be 4 big 10 teams ranked. But it is stupid to talk actual numbers, as they do with ncaa tournament bids.

40% of big 12 teams are ranked. 29% of Big 10 teams are. Seems about right.

Well, that’s not ideal. Hopefully a box score leaks so we can attempt to figure out what happened.

Without knowing who may not have played I take very little from this. Certainly prefer to win. :)
Wisky being good is fine by me.
From another of his tweets, he said that ISU is pretty banged up right now.
