I try to purchase most of my materials for an upcoming project when they have an 11% sale. Then I can use the rebates for the next project or for a tool purchase. I've only done this twice now. I would be quite frustrated if they didn't get returned, for sure.
I have gotten dozens of those rebates and I don't ever recall one of them not showing up eventually. I just hang on to them until the next time I need something.

So I see they have started moving dirt for Menards on south 16th and also across the street to the east of Theisen’s, north of the Kum and Go. Anyone know what’s going there?

I've heard it's a hotel

Well ****. Was hoping a new restaurant.

Yea, I'm waiting for a few restaurants and more retail to pop up in that area. Lots of Hotels and proximity to 30/35. Would think it's only a matter of time.

The Texas Roadhouse would have made so much sense out there.

What is wrong with picking up some groceries at Menards? Saves a stop at another store.

For several months, they had a gallon of milk for $1.99 (regular price), which beats anything.

Last Saturday I saw they raised it to $2.39, which is a bummer, but still better than most options.

They run some smoking deals on Jack's pizzas too. I always check the price when I'm there.

If I wasn't married I probably would find little excuse to visit any store except Menards. Tools, groceries, clothes. If only they sold beer and liquor too :(

That location makes no sense. Ames is growing north and west. Why put it on the extreme southeast corner of Ames?

The northwest corner of Ames isn't close to Hwy 30 & I-35. They may be drawing somewhat from the Ames market, but I'd bet a lot of their customers don't live in Ames.

Thiesens has a much better stock of Iowa State gear than Lowe's! Last year, they had a few pallets full of tailgate tents for like $149 (maybe less).

Best deal ever was the one time a few years back when they included gift cards in the 11% rebate. Then you later spend it during another 11% event, and are effectively getting 22% off merchandise! Only thing is I wish I would've stocked up more on the gift cards, 'cause I've never seen that offer since.

(Yes, I know the rebate just amounts to "store credit", but I'm gonna spend the $$ there anyway...)

I worked at the Clive Menards for about a year in 2015 to get extra wedding money (so 75% of my pay went to purchases at the store, now wife didn't really keep track, so no harm). I agree they have plenty of employees who don't know much (if anything) about other departments, but you gotta remember they need a lot more employees than your local True Value, too. They pay decent, think it was something like $11.50/hour & a boost to $13/hour for weekends.

Seemed the majority of customers were the type who knew what they needed, but not all. 11% weekends were very busy, especially when there were additional big sales on top. I worked in Cabinets & Appliances, so plenty of people who'd wait for 11% to drop $4k on appliances or $10k on cabinets. I wonder what percentage of those actually get used.

Adding another store in Grimes right down the road does kind of surprise me, but Clive is a top performer like someone mentioned. Kind of crazy to think the DSM Metro can support so many big box hardware stores. Will the new one make 10 total between Menards/Lowe's/HD? (Including Ankeny & WDSM)
