Just watched the Isley vs Harrington match. Marcus started in neutral position after the reversal. He didn't even go to the top position. Looks like it was probably Marcus' choice not the coaches.

The more I ponder on it the more I start to think it probably was going to be the best option for him. Like you mentioned earlier him struggling to ride would have just wasted time with hardly any left if he ended up giving up the escape. That way he had the full remaining time to try.

I'm more concerned about the FIVE losses to UNI by 1-2 points than I am about the methodology behind determining who's wrestling 165 on any given day.

Honestly not really that concerned by it. The reason I feel this way is due to the improvement that we have seen in our lineup from top to bottom (heck even at 125) all season long. Colbray is coming along rather nicely and as stated previously he was sick all week and he had lost by 7 to him while healthy earlier in the year. Straw losing hurt, but I think he gets him at conference. Hes improved and been right on the cusp of some big wins all year and its got to come together for him I would hope. Degen was controlled his whole match by thomsen and it wasn't a very good weekend. That first period for him on Friday night was rough. Yes he battle back and showed serious grit but he shouldn't have been in that position to begin with. As its been stated about pestano, I don't think he was going to be able to ride him out and so he used the time as best he could.

Another thing to remember is that we wrestled Friday and turned around to wrestle again Saturday in two big meets. Lots of emotion and intensity in the West gym. I think we came out a little flat just due to the circumstances. If we wrestle UNI on Friday night instead of Saturday I think we actually win 3 out of the 5 matches we lost. Just my thoughts.

I like your optimism and not complaining about where we are right now. I agree with your first paragraph. However, I don't understand the reasoning about coming out flat. UNI is ranked much higher than us and would think it would be an easy dual to get up for. Friday night against Fresno St. should not have been considered a big match for most wrestlers, so wouldn't seem like a reason to come out flat on Saturday. Also, we have had to weigh in back to back a couple times now so this should not be a reason either. They better get used to it and not make excuses because the Big12's and Nats are just around the corner! Also, it's not like we had to travel on a bus for 8 hours.

Again, not complaining about where we are at right now as we all knew there were going to be growing pains this year. I think this was simply one of the "down bumps" as Dresser would say. I don't think we need to look for excuses for why they may not have wrestled to our expectations. I certainly don't expect our staff to make any excuses!

I'd prefer not to make these kinds of excuses. We got straight up beat. Let's leave it at that and move forward.
