I didn’t think ISU was going this year. Are some guys going on their own?

ISU hasn't registered anybody yet but definitely will have some guys there. For these tweets they just put out all the people who could show up. Registration doesn't close until Monday and we'll find out the number of guys then and the registration list is released on Thursday.

No idea. I would be surprised to see Gomez there. Only because it would be his 1st competition.

I would say the above and Storr maybe Dane and Harrington. Just guessing.

If I had to guess, I would say Parker, Simmons, Storr, Degen and Dante.

other thought would be Harrington & Gremmel.

133,149, & Hwt seem to be the main weights that have competition for starting spot yet.

https://iawrestle.com/2017/12/26/iowa-state-sending-five-to-midlands/

IAwrestle has learned that Kevin Dresser is planning on sending five of his athletes to compete at the 55th annual Ken Kraft Midlands which takes place December 29-30th at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Most of the wrestlers making the trip are the team’s current backups, though sophomore Colston DiBlasi is also listed in the group and he has made the team’s last two dual starts at 165 pounds.

Making their Midlands debut will be Markus Simmons, Dante Rodriguez. Danny Bush, and Gannon Gremmel, while DiBlasi will be making his third straight appearance. We have yet to confirm what weight Bush will be at for the tournament. He opened the season at 184 pounds, but made his way down to 174 pounds for the UNI Open two weeks ago.

Markus Simmons – 133
Dante Rodriguez – 149
Colston DiBlasi – 165
Danny Bush – 174/184
Gannon Gremmel – 285

Dante unseeded at 149 and draws the 2 seed after a bye.

Diblasi unseeded at 157 and also draws the 2 seed.

Okay, looking through the brackets a little this morning...

133: After a bye, Simmons opens against Jhared Simmons from Maryland, who is 1-6 on the year and 21-42 on his career. He should be able to get a win there. Then he'll likely have the #8 seed, Ali Nasser from Arizona State. Naser is 11-6 on the year, was at Vegas but didn't place... a solid but not amazing wrestler. A win isn't a sure thing but would be good for Simmons' resume. Didn't look further in to the bracket than that.

149: Dante opens with a bye and then gets the 2 seed, #3 ranked Justin Oliver from Central Michigan. A win would certainly help his argument but with a loss he'll probably see Natrelle Demison of Adams State to stay alive. I didn't go through all the possible permutations of the consolation bracket but a quick look makes me think he needs to get to at least the R12 before he'll have the chance to get any wins to hang his hat on for the starting spot.

157: Diblasi doesn't even get a bye before running in to the 2 seed, #7 Josh Shields from Arizona State. Assuming a loss there he'll get a bye and then Dylan Geick of Columbia. Geick hasn't wrestled yet this season and is a freshman so all I know about him is that he was a 2 time placewinner in Illinois. The bar is a little lower at 157 for what he needs to do to prove himself but I think he'd need a win there and at least a couple more to state his case for a spot in the lineup.

174: Bush opens up with a bye and then gets the 2 seed, Mikey Labriola of Nebraska. Labroila is unranked because he is redshirting but has wins over #10 Smith and #11 Kocer so would be in the top ten if his shirt was pulled. Assuming a loss there he'll then get a bye in the consolations. I'm pretty sure the starting spot is his already for this semester but to feel good about how much of an improvement he'll be it would be nice to see him make the blood round.

HWT: Gremmell gets Duece Rachal of Illinois to start. Rachel is 5-3 on the year and 26-24 on his career. Win that and he gets the 4 seed, #10 Hemida of Maryland. Lose it and he gets a bye. Like Dante at 149, I think he needs to get to the blood round to make much of a case for the starting spot.

DiBlasi only lost by a point to Shields to last year, but Shields has greatly improved from a year ago.
Simmons the only realistic shot to place in this tourney. If he wins first 2 he'll face Gross in QTRS.
