So is playing against Shayok and Weiler-Babb (and others) in practice.
My first thought was, man, that is going to be perfect for him to come in and go against Shayok in practice every day. They play relatively the same position, but Shayok is a hard nosed defender who will push THT and hopefully somewhat take him under his wing and show him the ropes his freshman year.

That part is 100% on the Illinois staff. You have to have that **** completely worked out in advance, or you look like, well, like they do now.
Agree completely. Xavier was recruiting Ayo, but began focusing solely on THT when they saw that Ayo was going to Illinois. While I commend that our staff actually looks like they have what it takes to pull their top targets just made tainted THT's night. He was going to ISU prior to the Illinois visit by most accounts, so this was all completely avoidable. Terrible look into the world of basketball recruiting. I can't believe this type of stuff is more common than most of us know.

Yeah, I don't blame Illinois. It was worth a shot for them. I'm sure they thought that they could get those two guys on campus and Ayo's family would tell Mac Irvin to back off. Looks to me like AAU ball has WAY too much power.

Which begs the question, if every program in the nation tweets at recruits, are we at a disadvantage at times trying to play by the letter of the law (not according to our recruiting right now, I suppose). You could tell that THT was really affected by the amount of love Illini fans were showing him on social media, and if turned loose, I have no doubt that our fans could match that.
I think a ton of fans came to watch his open gym session during his Official Visit, so it's possible that might have had as much or more impact on him than the social media love. No way to know unless he comes out and says it (which he won't).

Hey, screw all this IL AAU talk. We got this kid and he’s going to be an amazing basketball player for ISU.

Shayok is going to dismantle him when he gets here, but it’s only going to make him so much better.

THT isn’t as athletic as Burton, but he’s better with the handles and and decision making with the ball. THT has a little Niang in him too and some nasty around the rim toughness like Ejim. I absolutely think this kid is going to be a star here and so fun to watch. When he develops his outside shot and (and he will) he’s going to **** teams up 10 ways to Sunday. And this doesn’t even mention the rest of his class and their abilities/ceiling.

Goddamn the future is bright.

I don’t think our fans don’t do it because it is against the rules, I think they don’t tweet at recruits because they think we are too cool or good for it. And 30 year old fans say it’s stupid, so they assume 16 year old kids think it’s stupid.

Frankly, I think it probably hurts us a bit. There are obviously the crazy tweets but I think if we had more fans that would tweet stuff like “would love to have you at Iowa state” it would help. Kids obviously like that **** because they retweet it.

Of the 4 in the 2018 class, my vibe is that Zion Griffin is going to end up being the best player and THT 2nd. I am often wrong in many matters, however.

I would probably agree with this, although with THT being only 16, if he has a growth spurt and ends up taller than Zion, he might have the higher ceiling.

I think THT is more of a sure thing but Zion has the highest ceiling. Zion's potential is through the roof considering the changes in his game this past spring/summer.

18-19 will be a Final Four year.
19-20 will be the national championship year.
20-21 repeat national champs.
21-22 we take a step back and only make the Elite 8.
I can only see 4 years into the future.
You heard it here first, book mark it. Put it in stone.

Love this class. Not only are they all extremely talented players, they seem to be young men of great character. Going to be a joy cheering for them! Nice work by the staff. Go State!

I hadn't gotten time to react to this news. What a recruiting class this has become. Transfer period had some disappointments, this is making up for it. It's probably preferable, if I was making a "would you rather" choice.
