Wrote a thing about the new Cyclone logo and how ISU can properly honor its heritage through design.

Does the new logo fit the bill? Really want to see the reaction of you good people here to the story. Let's discuss!

I'm fine with the uniform you present as an example, but please do not try to compare the Criner era to any other. That was a bad time where ISU football really was damaged in ways that took a couple decades to fix. True, it was not all Criner's fault, but still he was the coach when it happened.

Thank you for this contribution, @Kagavi! Great story, well-written, and so so timely. Love your designs! Especially the "storm grey." I believe that the grey we have been using lately is too dark. I much prefer your shade.

I posted in the Logo Hate Thread that they should have given this task (secondary logo design) to an alumni that is in design. Can we please start a campaign to have Kagavi lead the charge on rebranding? He's already in the 99 percentile of understanding ISU's history and the history of Jack Trice and has a number of concepts already in place. The background and research into JT's original uniform and research into that era is 2nd to none and having the stories behind the designs is something that adds to the tradition of a football program that essentially lacks tradition. For the love of Cyclone Nation, will someone in the AD please reach out to Kagavi and start writing checks?!?!

There is no doubt in my mind that the Orr Tornado polled as evoking a losing tradition, because Cyclone football pretty much sucked when we had that logo on the helmet. But do you know what cures that? Winning. Our team is getting better, our recruiting is getting better, and having that logo during an uptick in performance would eliminate any ill feelings it once held.
True and lets face it, there are not a lot of fans from that era because we just didnt have that many fans. Younger generations of Cyclones have no recollection of those times and would have zero association with losing for them. its a lame excuse.

Kagavi...you are awesome man! I think you they should hire you as designer! I don't know why they have not used these logos yet.

Hope ADJP and CMC realize what fans are looking for, soon!

I'm not exactly sure why something like this hasn't happened.

Get new looks? Sure. Put an actual brand on it that separates it from the rest but doesn't over do it? Apparently it's not that difficult.

The older look plus the actual 'winning' part (still needed) makes for an actual brand where people know and recognize ISU football.

Am I missing something? What is the logo in the second image supposed to be? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before and am having difficulty deciphering it.

Excuse this extremely poor work in paint, but if you clip the top edges of the Orr logo just a little bit I still think you preserve the original design but update it a bit.

Appreciate the effort but the top edges reduce the resemblance to a bugle by quite a bit. I would keep them.

Also, love the idea of helmet stickers related to Trice and Kagavi comes up with great stuff usually but I think it is only OK. The design seems very basic with a complex story background IMO and you'd have to sit someone down for a 10 minute convo to explain East Tech, scarab, rebirth, etc and get a response of "Oh ok, well it is still just a T in an oval." If the coaches ran with it, I'm not starting a hate thread about it but if we've learned something from this secondary logo situation, if someone has misgivings, it may be best for all if someone speaks up.

And this isn't hating on Kagavi. Kagavi, you rock and your passion for Jack Trice is unparalleled! Keep doing what you are doing.
