Fans are often blinded by shiny things and do not think logically, coaches on the other hand given the last couple of days, will probably be very risk adverse.

There is a big difference between getting fired as an assistant coach, or even having a shoe cause by the NCAA, and going to Federal Prison.

Saying that coaches are going to be "risk adverse" is an understatement. Guys the AAU, handler involvement happens in many, many situations. A lot of schools with have ties to this if the "sh.." hits the fan. Including many schools that people think are "above" cheating or don't need to cheat. A lot of assistant coaches worried today across the States. Everybody has done something they regret....everybody.

I am excited to see what CSP can do with a tall guard. Will give me an opinion on where we should look in future recruiting battles.

I wonder if we backed off Tyler or if he soured on us for some reason?

If we did back off of Harris, it seems to me that the most obvious reason is simply decided that the staff decided Halliburton plus Griffin (with the added bonus of having a little additional influence on Conditt and THT) is greater than Harris.

I would say we are very happy with Haliburton's versatility, upside and potential to play PG so we took him instead.

Or, just as likely you take the first player to accept your offer vs stringing them along. You make an offer because that player will make the team better. If you string recruits along waiting for another player at the same position to commit, you risk losing both recruits. When the staff visited Harris, they may have said something like "we want you, you are our top priority, but if another player at the same position accepts our offer, we have to take him." The way Harris has been stringing ISU along, it was a no-brainer to land Haliburton.

In other words, unless we get more information from the staff or Harris re: how it went down, it's all conjecture. Having said that, no one has said that ISU is definitely out, though it's looking more and more like that is the case.

As with any recruitment period the staff takes the first player that wants to commit and naturally it de-prioritizes the need for the other. Especially when they are similarly rated (Harris 138 Hailburton 149 247 composite). In reality both could complement each other well, Harris is a score first PG and Haliburton is more of a Pass/D first type PG IMO.

I still believe the staff would take Harris if he wanted to commit tomorrow, but I guess that Harris is pausing more due to added numbers at the guard spot. He should look at all his opportunities as situations change. In my mind this is more Harris cooling on ISU than the coaches backing off.

THT just dropped his top 7. Assume we'll hear about official visit dates soon.

Rivals150 wing Talen Horton-Tucker is down to seven: Ohio State, Xavier, St Louis, Illinois, Georgetown, Georgia Tech & Iowa State
Isn't it rumored to technically be down to ISU, Xavier and Illinois according to some Illinois "insider"?
