Jethro's BBQ Coming to Ames

Jetho's brisket at the original location was the worst I have ever had. Slimey, tough, tasteless.

Jetho's is just OK BBQ. But it is silly to pay $15 for BBQ & soda. Will be curious how they set up eating area with TV visibility. Their Waukee location is down the list of places to catch a game in that atea.

Their prices are a bit out of line for a large family. I did once share an Adam Emmenecker with two of my teenage sons. The HP Saucy Southerner with a mac 'n cheese is more my style.

I don't know what you guys are used to for cost but Jethro's is very much in line with pretty much any other sit down restaurant. A decent sandwhich and a side is around ~10$ which is pretty standard at every restaurant. My gf and I can go in there and get the 4 meat dinner for 2 and have enough food left for another meal between us. That's only ~22$, I mean really do you want decent food or do you want fast food prices. You really can't have both.

Jethros' BBQ isn't that good, but the rest of their menu is. Some of my favorite wings, good burgers/sandwiches, and a killer breakfast. Way more atmosphere than HP, and I'm sure they'll go all in an ISU theme, which will be nice.

Jethro's wings are fantastic. Also I would kill someone if they stood between me and the Waffle Fry Nachos.

This is true. Typically only go for breakfast, but the Ankeny Lakehouse has some pretty good Cajun dishes. Pretty much only have had the "typical" BBQ stuff from the other metro locations, but would assume their niche stuff is pretty good as well.

I'm sure they did their homework with HP being a stone's throw away. Who know's they could actually lower their prices to start with to be competitive. Personally I prefer the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, wings, jerky, whole chickens, etc that I smoke at home.

Yeah, i dont get the complaints on price. Jethros is comparable to just about any other restaurant. Hickory Park may be cheaper, but its quality isnt as good either (i still enjoy it, just not as much as Jethros when it comes to BBQ).

Better wings than bww?
much better. Jethro's smokes their wings. Much more flavor in the wing. BWW wings are just a sauce delivery device. They're fine for what they are, but nothing to write home about compared to many other places.
