“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

Yeah, he "gets it."

Ol' Marky Mark is just like us regular folks. Hollywood hasn't gone to his head at all...

This is an indication of his upbringing more so than being a Hollywood badass. I think you know that.

Like most opinions offered for free, it softens the blow when the celebrity (or anyone for that matter) prefaces with the opinion with "I think" rather than telling me I don't.

Again when anyone offers an opinion that is what they think. No need to preface it with it.

When stewo says Wahlburg gets it, I know he just thinks that. No need to preface it with anything.

They are offering opinions just like you. Frankly, I think you are annoying and obnoxious and preaching to me what I should think. Frankly, I'd rather have Meryl Streep tell me what she thinks than you because Hollywood or not she shares my values more than you do.

I may have accidentally wandered back onto the politics board - because this is exactly how i remember the "discussions" going. I might wander over to the beer board and argue bottle shapes.

I'm going to have to admit and confess to some ageism here on this one.

When I saw that, IMO, Warren Beatty has not aged well and was seeming to have a hard time reading the envelope or struggling with the name, that he was simply having quite the senior moment (temporary dementia maybe), and that's why it ended up being such a fiasco. The irony is that I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being some twenty-something production assistant working for peanuts who made the mistake.

In the long run, it's a silly and embarrassing moment for the Academy and the Oscars that is meaningless in terms of its actual importance, but it's too bad that it will come to be the defining moment in what I thought was otherwise a very well done production with a good host and some good speeches. It's really a shame that no one is talking about Viola Davis's acceptance speech today; that was a timeless classic.

It was the partners at price Waterhouse coopers that screwed it up.

No they don't. Not to anyone other than the person spouting the belief.

Well that's fine, I shouldn't have to read stewo tell me how great walhburg is then.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, That is what is cool about the United States.

Do you know what else is cool about the United States? That I can think your beliefs are ridiculous.

The point I'm making with a Hollywood actors comment is that he gets it. He doesn't act like his opinion trumps anyone else's because of his status. Have you ever seen him get on a stage like the Oscars and spout off his beliefs?

Not taking the other side, but Clint Eastwood at the convention a few cycles back.

That's only an assumption on your part. He's been living the "Hollywood badass" life for a long time. You don't have any clue whether that thinking is the result of his tough, racist, violent, felonious upbringing, or his years as a Hollywood star. Maybe he's speaking from the bravado of his childhood. Maybe he's a balloon-headed celebrity who doesn't quite understand that he works in make believe. We really don't know.

It was the partners at price Waterhouse coopers that screwed it up.
Apparently one specific partner, by the name of Brian Cullinan. There were two partners, one at each side of the stage. The woman partner gave her Best Actress envelope (Stone) to DiCaprio correctly; the guy then gave his duplicate envelope for "Best Actress" to Beatty by mistake.

"After Ms. Stone accepted that honor, Ms. Dunaway and Mr. Beatty came out to present the best picture award from Mr. Cullinan’s side of the stage, where a best actress envelope was still unopened. Mr. Cullinan clearly handed Mr. Beatty the wrong envelope."

Then there's this:

"Exactly how the confusion resulting in Mr. Beatty’s being handed the wrong envelope occurred is not fully known. But it could have to do with the design. PricewaterhouseCoopers used a new envelope this year, featuring red paper with gold lettering that specifies the award inside. That may have made the outside of the envelopes more difficult to read than last year’s envelopes, which featured gold paper and red lettering. The academy is responsible for the envelope design."
