Then use the block feature. Unfortunately, that's not a thing in real life.

actually, when it comes to celebrities voicing opinions you don't like, it sort of is.

And he doesn't have to listen to Meryl Streep. But she has as much of a right to say what she believes as he does.

Maybe that's the point (sorta) and he DOES. Everyone's opinion on this board is shared with those looking for the discussion. But if you are an arts lover and want to see Meryl receive a deeply deserved accolade for her acting prowess, you don't get "I'd like to thank the academy.." until you get the other stuff first. For many of us, the arts are a distraction and with any show while you get bombarded with the opinions of mostly left leaning actors, producers and writers you aren't overtly lectured to and we can see it as entertainment.

Maybe we're so sensitive because the folks that we admire and respect and who's opinions may be similar to ours are not given the same platform and when they ARE, they are mocked, ridiculed, etc...

My thoughts and beliefs are fairly well formed however I still take in information that can challenge my thinking. Never from an actor or other performer, but from people of knowledge with real experiences. Austin Goolsby is a guy I love listening to because his opinions are offered not as politics but as an educated experienced man. Great chance I would never change my mind because of him, but I am receptive to new ideas because of the way he approaches it.

I can be convinced, but I can't be coerced.

At risk of venturing into the forbidden political zone, I'm just curious what part of what Wahlberg said in the above quote you don't agree with?

I didn't comment on the post. I commented on someone who has been a known racist for years and is not exactly defending minorities now being "my favorite person in Hollywood." That phrase by Stewo was also not a rumination on Marky Mark's comment, but was rather making the bold statement that someone who has been arrested for hate crimes is his "favorite person in Hollywood," and one to adulate and revere. I might keep that one under my hat, personally.

I'm not going to sit here and try and defend some other person's actions and certainly not hate crimes, but you're bringing up things that happened in his youth. Like, nearly 30 years ago for his most recent crime. You're reaching pathetically hard on this one. I am curious, though, about your take on Lena Dunham. Are you cool with her or no?

See above response to Clonefan32 - but dude, we should totally forgive all of the outstanding Nazi war criminals because I'm sure that they totally changed their ways from a life that was, at its base, involving blatant hatred of minorities because it was in the 1940s. That's the logic, right? That sort of racist, systemic thinking that was ingrained in them from childhood TOTALLY is going to change.

I think Lena Dunham's one tweet was disgusting. Beyond that, I've never seen any of her shows or anything, so I don't particularly care about her as a person - but no, I wouldn't hold her up as an idol for my kids. I've never quoted her as a revered entity, nor have I ever called her my "favorite person in Hollywood." I certainly am not going to quote a dude who tried to curb-stomp two Asians saying crap about how we shouldn't listen to Hollywood actors, THEREBY LISTENING TO HOLLYWOOD ACTORS.

As a child, I said and did hateful things. It only defines me to those that live in the past. No clue if Wahlberg or any of the funky bunch are racist ******* bigots but nobody except maybe the Menendez brothers should be defined by actions as a youth. Except of course for the bad stuff. Using the "n" word as a kid, picking on kids that were different, etc... sadly part of growing up and hopefully learning from.

He was arrested and convicted for assaulting the crap out of minorities because they were minorities. Rather than try to make reparations, or even apologize, he sought to have his record pardoned.

I don't have any big thing about Mark Wahlberg - I think he's a mostly-crappy actor (who managed to almost bring down even "Boogie Nights" by only being able to make that one face) who seems to be a crappier person. He didn't just "say some stuff" - he threw stuff at minority children, he beat the crap out of people.

My guess is we're in broad agreement but we'd put different people on the same list. No clue about Marky being a crappy person but I don't recall him lecturing at me.

My point still stands about Starship Troopers.

Oh please. This thread started off about the gaffe during the Oscars. You (and a few others) brought up Hollywood opinions into it. And then you spouted off about how great ONE Hollywood opinion is.

You do this often. You insert yourself into a conversation that you claim to have no interest in. You say that you hate Hollywood and that they spout off about things that they shouldn't. But you are clearly bothered by it, because you insert yourself into the conversation. No one forced you to. You are picking a fight, but then get all butt hurt when someone argues with you.

If you had bothered to watch the Oscars you'd know that not one of the major winners spoke about politics. No one bashed any current elected officials. But you wouldn't know that because you won't watch it, but you will sure as hell paint all of them with the same broad strokes.

My point still stands about Starship Troopers.

It might have something to do with the fact that the movie was directed by a man who didn't even read the source material, and created another formulaic action movie that looks just like all of his other movies. Is it entertaining? Sure. It isn't Oscars material though.

Not if you're on social media or look at news websites, or the internet in general. It's everywhere.

It really is a sign of weakness to act so injured by people expressing views that aren't ones that you agree with.

And you have some sort of Ludivico technique situation going on?
Because short of that, I find it pretty hard to believe a person wouldn't be able to ignore the voices of celebrities if they desired.

If memory serves, Marky Mark beat up a minority who helped hide him when he was running from the cops. Like, hide me, then after the cops when by he punched the guy the eye permanently blinding him.

Yeah, that's not just talking smack at some minorities (which he did after the maiming of said minority, also) - as abhorrent as that is. He's sort of an awful person.

You're missing the point in your attempt at belittlement. No matter what news organization you follow, there are stories about what celeb said what on stage X about subject X. It truly doesn't matter which news outlet you choose to follow. It's there. To top it off, people on social media are constantly bringing it up.

Yeah, you only like boogie nights for the last 5-10 seconds Angie. Don't need to pretend.

I actually have a really hard time keeping a straight face at that part. Because the prosthesis is so obvious, and he's STILL MAKING THAT ONE FACE while gazing at it. The one somewhere between "I smelled something bad" and "I'm having to think way too hard about this."

and what? You have to click on those stories and read them? You are forced to read every social media post someone writes? And if you happen to accidentally read it, it wounds you so deeply that you simply cannot go on with your day, having read it?

I belittle your point because it's ridiculous. You seem to see yourself as this special little snowflake whose journey from sky to ground must absolutely not be marred by any kind of interference. Take the advice that you're doling out to these celebrities and get over yourself. If you don't like what some celebrity says, don't listen to it. Don't read it. Don't watch it. It's as easy as that.

No. You. DIDN'T! Uncultured slob. Casper VanDiem has all of the acting chops of a young William Shatner or Keanu Reeves. That artist has RANGE! I will watch the Oscars only when he receives his lifetime achievement award. So, like, never. World's GREATEST crappy, campy movie.

You wanted to discuss a show you didn't watch that handed out awards to movies you didn't watch? Alrighty then.

I didn't watch either but after hearing about what went down at the end I came to see what people's thoughts were on it.

1. Marky mark was smiling during that scene and 2. I didn't look close enough to tell whether it's real or not.

Will let you check your wallpaper to doublecheck.
