And half the students at Iowa are suddenly worried about how they are getting home for the holidays.

That's a bummer, I paid $1 for a ticket from Des Moines to Iowa City a couple years ago.

I'm always confused when people glamorize rail but many of the same people would never consider riding a bus.

I think it stinks. Megabus is/was a great service. I know people who take megabus from central Iowa to Chicago to avoid dealing with the traffic.

To each their own. Did Megabus once and while it was great getting round-trip tickets for $2 a piece, the whole riding a bus experience stunk. For example, on the way back, when you're just looking forward to being home and not on a bus with 100 people anymore, the driver made the decision to take an hour stop in Newton so everyone could eat.

We've done Amtrak before and it was better, but in the future I'm either flying or driving.

Megabus > Greyhound

Minimal stops on regional trips. Decent price. Not packed full of smokers.

I rode a bus out to DC for my sons DC trip a couple years ago. Ain't EVER doing that again!

In HS we did Disney and back for band and choir. It was a blast back then but now days that bus better have TV and Wifi and even then 24 hours straight was a pain. Hell even by the time I was in college and we went to the insight bowl the busses they gave the band to get to the game and back (another 24 hour one way trip) broke down several times and it was just hell. Now days those same busses probably have TV and Wifi which would have made it better but it still sucked.

They have wifi but you can only use it at 2 am because it only supports 4 people it seems. TV is watching movies.

I did learn where not to sit. I was close to the bathroom. One of my sons friends went to the bathroom so much that on the way back he grabbed two frappacinos and I told he could use the bathroom once between stops because him and his buddy was going every 15 minutes and I was getting POd about getting banged into all the time.

I've ridden on a bus from Council Bluffs to Mississippi and from Louisiana to Des Moines. Worst experiences of my life. Well, it totally sucked anyway.
