Chances Lazard breaks record this year?

I really hope he does. That would mean great things for our team this fall.

I'll say this: I'm really glad we have a new coaching staff. I'm tired of creating preseason threads with high expectations only to have them fall flat.

Allen is not innocent to his lack of numbers. Allen needs to do a better job of getting open. Youth and inexperience are no longer and excuse for him. Lanning has yet to prove he can consistently throw the ball accurately and make quick reads. He doesn't lack arm talent or the ability to make plays with his feet. I think we'll have a pretty good idea after the first few games.

I guess I'm confused by this comment. Last year Allen Lazard was 5th in the Big 12 in receptions per game as a true sophomore. The pass happy Big 12. The 4 guys ahead of him?

Josh Doctson, SR, 1st round draft pick
Jakeem Grant, SR, in the NFL. All time TTU receiving leader
Sterling Shepard, SR, 2nd round draft pick
Corey Coleman, SR, 1st round draft pick

He was beat out by arguably 4 of the top 8 WR's in the country. Also, one thing those guys had that he didn't? A quarterback.

Lazard has the ability of any of those guys. Last year was fine, but if only has 50 catches for 500 yards in 12 games again this year, it'll be a disappointing season.

He only played in 11 games and had 808 yards.

I'm not going to disagree that it would be disappointing if his season wasn't better than last year, but last year was really good when you consider he was a sophomore and didn't have a competent Big 12 QB throwing him the ball. I mean you are comparing him to seniors that have Heisman candidates throwing them the ball.

When I read the OP comments my mind instantly went to the wide receiver screen passes we have been using the last several years with really mixed results. With that being said 76 catches could be obtainable, I just hope that isn't how Lazard breaks the record.

I hope they use him vertical this year early and often.

Why don't you think he'll catch Blythe for career yards? He's so tough to bring down after the catch and still getting better.

Absolutely possible he can break it. If he misses like I predict, I'd guess it'll be extremely close.... extrapolating his current pace, career yardage is the most difficult to attain.

I think we only see catches go up slightly, but the yardage will go up. Hopefully we use him more down field this year. Last year was a lot of screens and drags across the middle. Don't get me wrong we need to get him the ball any way possible, but it would be Nice to not make him get all his yards after the catch

And a competent OC. Maybe we'll be upgraded in that department this year?
