Shoot, wish we coulda gotten a run there but making Mad Bum throw almost 30 pitches in the first inning is a very good thing

Fun series this past weekend. Knew which way the 'Battle of the Jakes' was going to go, but the other two could have gone either way, even with Cain in game 2. Remember, he was once the ace of the Giants' staff, throwing the first perfect game in Giants franchise history. Relief pitching didn't blow games on Saturday and Sunday like I expected. See you in September!

Happy to get my SF broadcast crew back tonight. These national crews leave a lot to be desired.

It was a fun series. I thought the Cubs would win Friday and Saturday, but glad we got a win against a hot team. Would of been easier to swallow if we didn't lose 2 in Milwaukee, but oh well. Need to win 2 in St Louis which would put us at 4-5 on this road trip.

Why won't they make it on their current pace? Most teams carry two catchers, with one going four games and the other one. Right now the Cubs are essentially splitting their time 50/50. I thought it was incredibly odd that they DFA'd Rameriez over sending Fed back down. Fed is getting no time up here, especially since Montero came back. Of course I said the same thing when they activated Montero DFA'd Kalish, so who knows...

Fed is out of options so he can't go to Iowa and he won't make it through waviers. Ross is 39 and not an every day player anymore. And Montero has already been on the DL and clearly ran out of gas last season. He was not good at the plate the last 2 months of 2015. If you can add another catcher into the rotation (shoulda been Schwarbs), then you can save some bullets in Ross and Montero for October. Fed can be that guy until the all-star break and then I expect Contreas to be up sometime after that.

If you dump Fed, you might have to sacrifice Contreas' continued development, which goes against what Theo and Jed want. Fed is an insurance policy essentially.

or you sign some other AAA catcher to play 15 games if Montero gets hurt again. Federowicz has been terrible and the Cubs should be able to find just about any AAA catcher to give the same value

Well if that's the case, shouldn't Fed actually catch a game once in a while? He hasn't done anything other than pitch hit since Montero got back.
