IF our new coach decided he wanted to bring one or both of them on, it wouldn't upset me, but I don't like the campaigning for them before we even know who our new coach is...he should be able to put together his own staff...I think it's foolish to say 'we should hire so and so as an assistant, and keep this guy and that guy,' before we even have a coach.

DC???

I would take Austin Flynn from Grandview. He has experience as an OC, at least.

What about Atif Austin at North Dakota State to coach receivers? Already recruits Florida and helped get Dondre Daley here and is with a proven winner on the FCS Level

Not exactly sure.

Need someone on with the FCC so we don't have that calling issue again like Fred had.

I'm okay with this idea. Sage as QB coach, Seneca as TE coach, Austin Flynn as WR coach. Lean on them heavily for recruiting responsibilities, and lean heavy on the OC to coordinate them as position coaches.

ETA: Not saying this is the BEST approach (though it might be), but if I had to choose between former Cyclones and unknown or lower tier position coaches (e.g. Chizik staff), give me the Cyclones with or without any experience.

I don't know if either of these guys would be particularly good recruiters. You have to be a little bit different to really be a great recruiter, especially at ISU. It's such a grind, when you have a family and millions in the bank I don't think you're going to be as driven as some of the other, hungrier guys out there.

This. If we are talking former players my preference would be:
1) Flynn
2) Sage
3) Senneca

* Jake Knott as a GA?

I brought up Flynn in another thread. He's been one of the top assistants at a winning program in central Iowa. I'm sure he has been recruiting a ton locally and in the surrounding areas. He wouldn't even have to move.

Great rebuttal! Swarth gon' Swarth.

If there is a fit with the new HC, its cool with me. I could see it working.
If there isn't a fit with the new HC, that's cool with me, too. I could see it blowing up.

But, I think it makes sense for the new HC to at least consider the options that are out there. At least give them a call and feel it out a little bit. Maybe the HC talks to one or all of these guys and realizes there's no way they can be successful on the staff. Or, maybe the new HC finds a place on staff for one or more of these guys.

Summary: I don't know if it'd work, but the HC might as well explore the option. Also, don't be a ****. The end.

Hey Mr. New Coach, you should make 22 percent of your staff entry level noobs with zero coaching experience just cause they used to play for Iowa State.

As others are said, I'd love to have them as part of the football staff, but not as position coaches since there aren't enough of those positions to go around. If we are going the former player route I'd much rather go with someone like Flynn who actually has coaching experience.

We just fired a coach that loved Iowa state. I don't relish the idea of having to fire two more that love Iowa state. And history tells us the next staff is likely to get the boot at some time.

No way you can have all three on the same staff. Maybe one at most.

Since they can't both coach QBs, where would you assign each guy?

Bringing them both on board would be a major coup, but after listening to the interviews this column is based on, it's my impression that only Seneca has genuine interest in a coaching opportunity. Sage has clearly been going down a broacacting career path in the few years he has been away from the game.

Hopefully JP will meet with both of these guys privately to learn their perspectives on program direction, but if he is loking to preserve some Cyclone DNA in the next coaching staff, Seneca is clearly guy.
