Hammel will start Game 4. Not surprised, but wonder if that changes if the Cubs lose tonight.

It shouldn't. The problem is Lester can only start one more game regardless, and I'd rather it be on full rest. Had the Cubs been able to set the rotation and were able to go Arrieta on short rest and Lester for game 5, that would be one thing. But I just don't think the difference between Hammel and Hendricks is enough to downgrade from Lester on full rest to short rest.

I love this team more than I love beer. And I like it almost as much as Sark.

Also, love that the PxP guy said the Cubs put a crooked number on the board. I love that expression.

I'm actually starting to warm up to Ron Coomer. It must be the positive association with this season. It's the only explanation I can come up with.

Jorge Soler is OPS'ing 3.750 this post season, and yes the decimal is in the right place.

Man it would be nice if we can close tomorrow.

Set the rotation for NLCS with Jake and Lester potentially being able to throw 4 or 5 of 7 possible games.

But you can set the rotation for the NLCS. Pitch him tomorrow, and he can go Game 2. Pitch him Thursday, and he cant go until Game 3.

The Cubs win tomorrow with Hammel starting and Lester can go Game 1. The Cubs throw him and lose and you most likely traded 7 strong innings of Lester for 4 or 5 decent ones and now you're season rests on Kyle Hendricks' shoulders on the road in an elimination game.

Yep...like I said, I see both sides of the argument. Also, Arrieta goes Game 1 regardless.

I wonder if Javy gets the start at SS today, sounds like Russell's hamstring will be fine long term but we'll see about today.

There are two types of rookies in this world...

Those who need time to prepare to be thrown into the fire and those who prefer to be thrown in the fire when they're least expecting it.

Baez was clearly not expecting to be playing yesterday. He definitely didn't see himself replacing Russell. I highly doubt he had thrown a ball for two hours when his first error came.

No, not making excuses, but I believe that, with it being his first postseason experience, had Baez had time to mentally prepare himself for the game, he would've been fine. I don't think he'll be making an error tonight should he play.

You could be right, but I still start Castro at SS tonight.

Agreed, and it was a deserved error on Baez but it was a pick Rizzo could have made too, although it would have been a tough play. Baez is a solid infielder, I'd have no problem running him back out there today if Russell can't go. Baez had a pair of solid AB's too, wasn't trying to crush a ball into the wind, just took what the pitcher gave him and got a couple base hits.

It's awesome that our SS goes out in a playoff game and it's not Ronny Cedeno or Neifi Perez having to come in, but a guy like Javy, who was a top five prospect in all of baseball just last year.

Happy to hear Ryne Sanberg through out the opening pitch wearing Ernie Banks jersey last night. That's really cool on a lot of levels. Hope we see more of Ryno.
