Friday was a pretty quiet day when it comes to Hoiberg Watch, 2015. NOT.

For real though, I didn't learn much when it comes to behind the scenes stuff - only that a deal between Hoiberg and the Bulls is not currently in place. However, I do expect that to occur early next week.

NOTE to the "why publish that article" crowd: Because if a deal really was in place for months like some had indicated, that's a bad look for Iowa State's head coach. I had to know if that was true. If a coach knows he is on his way out, is he really recruiting the same way as a guy trying to build for the future? That type of stuff. I wanted to dig into it.

Hoiberg's reputation should mean something here. I was not surprised to learn that the whole "gentlemen's agreement" thing was false.

The daily dirt

--- In my opinion, the biggest news from Friday is that according to the Orlando Sentinel, Hoiberg recently interviewed with the Magic. I have been hearing all along from one specific source that Hoiberg would end up in the NBA next season but it wouldn't for sure be with the Bulls. Now that all makes sense.

--- Reports surfaced on Friday that Iowa State assistant coach T.J. Otzelberger is the preferred choice of Jamie Pollard's going forward.

--- As great of a hire as I think it would be, I do not believe that Jeff Hornacek will replace Hoiberg.

--- It's strange how all of this has played out. Pollard coaching searches are usually so quiet. This one though? With the Otzelberger reports and Hornacek being all over the place, it's been very loud - very weird.

Perhaps it's a misdirection ploy to keep us distracted.

You don't believe Hornacek will be head coach, but is it a for sure no? That's the best option at this point.

Well, if this I s the case, it pretty much confirms what a few of us thought when Matt A left and TJ was brought back.....most likely JP expected this to happen and did let TJ know he would be either the guy in waiting or have a legitimate chance to lead the program.......and the Romar statement is what many of us thought......

I doubt it's a no for sure. 2 years ago Hornacek talked about how he always thought he'd be coaching in college. It just depends on what JP wants to pay. I think it's foolish not to offer Hornacek at least was Fred was making.

Word just came out that ISU ( and other legacy B12 teams) are receiving 10% more in league revenue this year...I say throw some of that extra money at Horny and see what happens...

Get ready for the local media to show a whole lot of Otz love to win the fan base over, and in case no one noticed it started today. Unfortunately, not many will see right through it.

Edit: To dense people like dancaudio, I am not directing my comments at all at CW or CF. I actually caught part of CW's radio show and I didn't pick up on that at all from him, he seemed to be straight up about the situation. I didn't listen to the entire show, so I can only speak for the parts I heard. But other shows on the radio from what I heard were full blown Otz love.

CW, why don't you think Hornacek will replace Hoiberg? Have we or are we even going to reach out?

So I guess the Magic job was a back up plan in case both the Bulls and T-Wolves fell through? Man Fred, if you were so unhappy why didn't you just tell us?

Honestly though, I feel bad for the players in all this. They are the ones who are seeing their coach was looking for any way out of town while telling them he would be back next season.

I also thought it was interesting and telling how TJ jumped back in and threw out about 5-6 recruiting offers for 16-18 immediately, all while Fred was still in the hospital or recovering....really clears that up too

I would bet Fred ultimately turned the Magic job down or at least excused himself from consideration after talks, but did want to explore it as the Bulls scenario dragged on...
