I think one of the problems is Gabe is their second best player and for some inexplicable reason Fran doesn't start him.
Yeah, not sure I understand that myself. Fran just loves Woodhead for some reason. He always talks glowingly about him.
You know darn well if that would have been Woodhead instead of Gabe, Nader would have posterized him. I give Gabe a lot of credit for taking Nader on. It was a great block on the ball, even though he did foul him hard with the body. But we all saw the momentum Iowa got from that play when Ginger White went down on the other end and hit a 3 and made Fred call a timeout. I actually heard some noise in Carver after that series.
Of course, cool hand Monte quickly took over and quieted the crowd right back down again after the timeout though, and Carver was a morgue the rest of the night.
I do question Fran's coaching ability though. Gabe should be playing a LOT more, and Woodhead should be sitting a lot more IMO. I think Jok should probably play more since he's the only one they have that can actually knock down a shot. And if I were Fran, I'd post Uthoff up more. The kid is 6'10" and can play the 3 for crying out loud.
If Uthoff and Ginger White could develop a post up game, that would help. White is just SO limited. He can dunk on fast breaks and putbacks, but that's about it. Can't shoot, can't dribble, no post moves. Had zero FG's against UNC. His half court offense consists of standing out behind the arc, then attempting to drive, flail his arms all over the place, and get the foul. That's it. He would get eaten alive in the NBA, but he'll never make it there.
