Cincinnati and Memphis to the Big 12?

I'd show FSU and Clemson how football in the ACC will keep them out most years. That should help them come.

FSU is very lucky computers are no longer 1/3 of the formula. Lots of computer models where they aren't in the top 4. Ohio State and Michigan State should feel very lucky too. Computer polls rarely have either of them in an 8 team playoff scenario, let alone a 4 team playoff. There's really very little argument for a Big Ten team in a four team playoff this year. If FSU were some other ACC program and not an unbeaten name school defending champ you'd hear people talking about leaving them out too.

It will be a concern for the Big IIXII when OU or Texas are left our of the playoffs because we don't have a championship game.

I'm not panicked yet either. I wouldn't want #12 to be Memphis. They aren't in my top 5 after Cincy if Cincy is 11.

If huge conferences do work out and bigger is better (unlikely but who knows?) what's to stop us from joining a 14 team league with two 12 team divisions, 3 eight team divisions or 4 six team divisions?

Cincy would be a good add, not so sure about Memphis. At least it would add two beatable football teams for us. Would rather get a florida team or U Conn.

One thing this does do is open up new recruiting territory for the BXII. Cincy gets us into B1G territory and Memphis gets us ties to SEC territory. I like the adds from that standpoint

ACC/Big 12 Divisions for football

Northwest
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Louisville
Pitt
West Virginia

Southwest
Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech

Northeast
Boston College
Duke
Syracuse
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest

Southeast
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Miami
North Carolina
North Carolina State

So we'd play our division every year plus 1 from each of the others. We'd play every team in our division in Ames every other year, and every team in the conference once every six years (and bring them to Ames once every 12).

For basketball, add in Notre Dame and make it a 24-game conference slate. 12 conference games at home and 12 away; switch who you get where every season.

Conference play would start in mid-December in order to fit it in, so our traditional date with Iowa would mark the end of non-conference play. It would be a bloodbath.

Five-day conference tournament in March (alternatively, only the top 16 qualify for the conference tournament, and do a 4-day tournament); the FedEx Forum in Memphis would be a central spot for that probably, or could rotate sites (Kansas City, Dallas, Charlotte, DC)?

This could be in both league's best interests before SEC/B1G/Pac try to get greedy again. Can't say I "love" it, but if it's an ultra-competitive environment this it the best way to stick it to the #1 and #2 money generating conferences. This league's TV contract would dwarf all others.

You truly have the Northeast, absolutely dominate the mid Atlantic coast, you truly have the Southwest and Southeast, and you have a good foothold in the midwest. Would probably permanently screw schools like UConn, Cincy, USF, UCF out of the big boys table.

TAKE ME AWAY TO WHERE THIS MYTHICAL CONFERENCE EXISTS!

For the conference 4 team playoff, you need to have the other teams not in the conference playoff playing. You would have to. So I am thinking an East/West Playoff so Northeast plays Southeast and winner plays the winner of Northwest and Southwest in the conference championship game.

Then I think you would have to have the losers in the brackets play the same in the ranking in the other division. For example, we would play Texas Tech because they were last in that division. Kansas would play Okie State. etc.

That would be the only way. You couldn't schedule 4 OOC then have 9 conference games before the CCG.

Wonder if basketball tournament wouldn't be better just having top 16 qualify, rather than 4 play in games to the round of 16. Would be the only 8 teams whose season could end early, but would add a lot of drama/motivation or teams at bottom of league standings, almost like relegation in soccer.

Part of me says "god no". Part of me says...this would give the Big Ten, SEC and Pac exactly what they deserved for creating this mess.

Big Ten and SEC would have to decide whether they wanted to merge or remain #2 and #3 in the landscape they created. Pac would have to stay at 12 or add schools like BYU and New Mexico they've deemed a bad fit.

None of this is happening.

But, if I was able to choose and help the conference, our focus should be Arkansas and LSU. (Arkansas' former ties/history with the Texas schools and the fact that LSU alumni/fans can't stand the favoritism shown to Bama in the SEC. LSU fans constantly complain about scheduling and how a lot of factors favor Bama, not to mention the SEC headquarters are so close to Tuscaloosa too.) These points would be my focus if I was in charge of the Big 12. Poach 2 from the SEC. Geographically, makes good sense too and the Big 12 remains an incredibly strong conference.

But again, none of this is happening.

TCU is the #3 choice right now and plays Iowa State. Unless they get upset or play a horrible game at home versus the Cyclones they are a virtual lock to make the playoffs. Florida State is on the edge at #4 and their unbeaten record is the only thing keeping them in the mix. They could get upset.

As far as Ohio State, they are rated #5. But the Chairman of the Selection committee said that position did NOT reflect the loss of JT Barrett. The next vote WILL reflect that loss of JT Barrett. Wisconsin could win and knock them out. Baylor will have their hands full with K-State IMO. IF OSU and FSU lose then Baylor is likely in the Final Four. Hard to justify taking any of the 2 loss teams over the Bears........especially when there is argument over whether it is TCU or Baylor. They simply take both.

Wait till sunday when the big12 gets passed over for the playoff. You know it is coming.

Are you serious?

A 1 loss Big 12 team that will likely not be the clear champion of the league is ahead of an undefeated team from another power conference.

The only way the Big 12 gets passed over is if we beat TCU and KSU beats Baylor, and all the other 1 loss teams win.

The thing about Memphis is they bring a lot of new money to the conference.
