According to a radio host in Nashville, the Big 12 is going to add two teams in the offseason: Cincinnati and Memphis. The theory is that the Big 12 will be penalized most years by not having a conference championship game by the playoff committee.

Those aren't good adds. We'd be splitting up the pie for no reason. We can do better.

Once the playoff moves to 8, and it will especially with one of the P5 Champs guaranteed out and only 1 SEC SEC SEC team, the CCG won't matter.

If this happens and we go back to a North of ISU, WVU, KSU, KU, Cinci, Memphis and South of OU, OSU, UT, TCU, TT, BU? Thanks but I'll pass.

Like who? The big12 already messed up by not getting Louisville. There are no good teams left that can be poached out of their current conferences. In the end there might only be 4 conferences left and the big12 needs to add.

I'm good with Cinci but Memphis not so sure about. Cinci is a solid football program and their basketball is good too. Memphis not so much in either anymore. And doesn't bring in a huge amount of new TV eyes.

I'd buy cincy, but not Memphis. Uconn or a Florida school would be better.

gimme BYU. The Big 12 would have Mormons, Baptists, and Christians. We would be missing the Methodists from SMU but 3 out of 4 is pretty good.

Also, if the Big 12 did add Cincy Tommy. Tuberville would be back in the Big 12 after leaving TT.

I would also take Cincy.

This. I really think the Big 12 messed up big by not adding Louisvlle and Cincy along with WVU. I'm sure they didn't see the ACC scooping up Louisville like that, but in retrospect that was a huge misstep. Now instead of adding an elite hoops program and respectable FB program, we will be stuck adding a good (but down) basketball school and an awful FB team in Memphis (assuming there is any merit to these rumors).

They may have to, need that championship football game.

Copying an earlier post of mine below.

Why do people think this?

The Big 12 is the only conference that has a reasonable shot at getting two teams in the playoff. That is only possible because they don't have a championship game.

Consider the following two scenarios:

1) Baylor and TCU are in the same division. Baylor would be playing K-State in the B12 Championship Game this Saturday, while TCU would be staying home. TCU would absolutely get left out at 11-1 behind a 12-1 Baylor who is Big 12 Champion, assuming Baylor beats a good K-State team twice. There's a chance K-State wins one of those and knocks them out, too.

2) Baylor and TCU are in different divisions. For obvious reasons, one of them would get left out by virtue of losing on the last weekend in the Championship Game to the other.

The only way that the Big 12 gets two in this year would precisely be because of the lack of a championship game. It's not hurting the conference at all. It might even be helping.

Let's look at the other conferences:

SEC - likely unaffected by championship game (Alabama in either way, Mizzou out either way)
Pac-12 - mixed results, but more bad than good (Oregon in with win and out with loss; Arizona maybe in with win and out with loss.)
ACC - all bad (FSU in with win and out with loss, GaTech out either way)
B1G - better than not (OSU maybe in with win)

So the existence of a championship game this season is certainly harmful for one conference (ACC) and potentially harmful for another (Pac-12), while being only potentially helpful for one (B1G).

I'm assuming that if OSU wins the B1G championship game, Baylor and TCU would both be left out of the player.

if OSU hadn't lost their starting quarterback there would have been a decent chance of that happening.

Penalized? There is a real possibility we get two teams in if FSU or Oregon lose (assuming baylor wins which isn't a given).

I will say, even if it's mediocre add for the conference, a new north division where we play Cincy, KU, Memphis, K-State, and WVU every year, but miss 2-3 of the south teams would be a godsend for getting ISU FB back on track.
