The unexpected losses on the Dline are too much to overcome IMO. I thought we had a chance back on signing day. Assuming Mangino can get the offense more fundamentally sound, we can hopefully still get a win or two more than last year.
I still think 5-6 wins. We were 3-9 with a bad OC and a ton of injuries. We have a ton of experience on offense. Defense will be average ISU defense. I believe the offense will score 10 more points per game having a proven leader making the plans and decisions. That is more time the defense will be resting and learning. I feel like this is going to surprise people like Rhoads first season and we get a bowl game just because of the new leadership. I am not down on this team until they show they are not good. I expect a bowl game.
10 more points/game is a lot to expect. Last season that would have us at 34.8/gm, good for 27th in the nation (4th in the Big 12).

Would like to point out that was back with 8 conference games and divisions. Baylor and OSU were not like they were the past couple years.
I am trying to remember. Didn't we hold the record for the most games in a row holding a team below 30 points before last year.
I believe that ISU can find its ways back to a bowl game this year, so I'm not expecting the horrors of last year to completely repeat themselves. However, I'm really down about losing Irving and Coe. I don't know exactly how high their ceiling was going to be, but they would have presented some unique skill sets from the interior positions.
ISU had like a 2+ year long streak or something holding opponents under 35, which was maybe 2nd longest in the nation at one point. Which then became a point of contention around here, as we were supposedly celebrating consistently mediocre, but not bad defensive play. For what it's worth, not getting completely shredded by someone, somewhere for 50 or 60 during a couple season of Big 12 play is impressive in my book. EVERYONE eventually takes a major *** kicking in this conference and gets 50+ pointed sooner or later.
Fun fact: Chizik faced exactly ONE ranked team in 2008 (#16 KU) and still managed to lose 10 games.
Agree and I would argue that the 2010, 2011, 2012 teams could also run the damn ball. Herm & Mess just chose not to. Should have run left behind KO about 50 times per game.
