Soundgarden opened for Guns and Roses at the Target Center in Minneapolis back about 1992. I could not make out anything close to a song. Just 45 minutes of sound. Guns and Roses eventually came out and it was crystal clear.

New Radicals when they opened at VEISHEA for, if I remember correctly, the Goo Goo Dolls? New Radicals were just terrible!

This. The New Radicals were awful and yes they did open for the Goo Goo Dolls that night.

I was at the old DotFest in Ankeny when Smashmouth played. The lead singer was absolutely hammered when they took the stage and was barely able to stand up there. His singing sounded like complete gibberish and I'm pretty sure he forgot the words to the parts of the first couple of songs. The crowd was booing them without mercy and without fail the guy had a few choice words for the crowd before throwing some unopened beers at people and then walking off stage. That was one of the worst performances I have ever witnessed.

Alot of love for Dylan here, and I'll join in.

Saw him at the Val Aire a number of years back for that Borzellino benefit. He's just past his prime. But more than just the performance, the whole experience sucked. The way they had things cordoned off for VIPs and big money donors left a bad taste.

It had to be the police in Omaha about 5 years ago. You could tell they couldn't stand each other and didn't want to be there. It was like they simply were doing it to collect a paycheck. No interaction with the crowd or each other. It was awful!

I saw Dylan in the early 90's and it was terrible. Saw him again last summer, and he was still terrible. Fortunately, both shows were very memorable for reasons completely unrelated to Bob Dylan.
If someone hears that i'm going back to see Dylan, tackle me, throw something at me, call me a Hawkeye if you have to, but don't let me go back.

I went to a Dylan concert in 1991. He sounded terrible. I started laughing when he sang Lay Lady Lay because it was awful.

I think it was the first year of "dry Veishea" when they really pushed concerts. The Flaming Lips was one of the bands.

I went expecting some "She Don't Use Jelly" etc and mostly for whatever band played after.

Turns out they had "reinvented" themselves into the Flaming Lips Experience. Instead of playing music they had people come up on the stage and hold radios with precorded sounds like babies crying, doors slamming etc. Which they then played at ear piercing volumes.

I've been to a few other bad ones, but that is hard to beat.

I actually would have LOVED to see this.

In a half hours time, they sang their one hit, "You Get What You Give," at least three times, including once as an acoustic solo. I think they only did one or at most two other songs during their show.

At least all of these are real bands. I went to Milli Vanilli when they played at Vets back in 85 or so. First concert as a kid and to find out they weren't real was horrible.

Locked in a feces-ridden hell hole with no food or water for 3 days. And everything was on fire.

No, you wouldn't have. At first, I thought the concept was really cool and thought it started OK, but it went downhill fast. It might have worked in an intimate setting like a club or small theater, but it certainly didn't work in Hilton with thousands of college students there.

I know exactly what concert your talking about and that band had absolutely ear melting music. I can't for the life of me remember the name of that opening band though.

Does Melt Banana ring a bell? I did some searching and it appears that was the opening act for Tool in CR in 2007.

With a name like Melt Banana, it has to be good, right?

But you know who kicked *** at that show? 2 Skinnee J's. The Atomic Fireballs also did a really energetic set.

I suspect foul play. Sound engineers will often go out of their way to make sure the opener sounds like crap. Nothing the band can do about it other than try not to **** off the sound guy.
