The cops were funneling at 500 people towards Welch. Did they not learn their lesson? It could of easily gotten out of control.
No they didn't. And they never will.
But the very next night? Come on.
So it doesnt matter if its the right decision, just the one for easiest PR? Well this certainly starts to sound like a trend with Leath..
uh oh a guy named Devondrick driving a vehicle with FL plates was just arrested for to loud stereo.

If it is Devondrick Nealy it's probably because they knew he was a football player. DBag move by Ames PD either way though.Arrested? Or ticketed? SMFH if he got arrested.
EDIT: SMFH if he got ticketed too.

Ames cops are awful. I got stopped before because I "looked suspicious" when I was walking home and went through the Cyclone Plaza garage to get to my apartment. A cop stopped me and asked what I was doing and I told him I was just going home. He asked for my ID and ran it against the arrest warrant registry. At the time I was just stunned I was stopped so I just did everything he said. Now looking back at it I wonder if they had the authority to do that legally. Anybody here with a law background know if they can do this legally?I don't see how you go from warning all the way to being arrested. Did they just skip over the ticket option?
Lived in Ames for 25 years and I thought all cops were as bad as they were. Once I moved to WDM I quickly learned, it's just the Ames PD. They're terrible.
The cops or the drunks? The cops aren't the problem.

Yeah, unless he had probable cause that you were committing a crime or an infraction you did not have to produce your ID. He has every right to ask for it, but you did not have to produce it. You also did not have to tell him what you were doing there either.
I figured that was the case. I should have just said no and continued walking. But my thought was does Ames PD have nothing better to do than stopping an individual and running their ID? Sad.Without a few more details, I can't be 100% sure, but at least 90% of the time in similar situations, the cops don't have the legal authority to compel you to present ID. Obviously you volunteered it when they asked, but you could have said no and there wouldn't have been anything they could legally do about it.
