Philadelphia Eagles @Eagles 5m LB Jake Knott suspended without pay for first four 2014 regular season games for violating NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.
Figures.“Several weeks ago, I was shocked to learn that I tested positive for a stimulant that is banned by the NFL. I have never knowingly ingested a banned substance, but like most players, I take nutritional supplements. Unfortunately, I now know that supplements are not regulated and thus may contain things that are not listed on the label. The NFL policy is very strict, so I have chosen to take immediate responsibility. I look forward to participating in team workouts, training camp and the pre-season with my team. During the suspension, I will work extremely hard to stay in top football shape and be ready to contribute immediately upon my return. I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches, my family and fans for the impact of my mistake on the team.”
I never bought the "I didn't know it was banned" explanation with any PED users and I don't plan on starting with Knott. As a professional athlete you just have to know what's going into your body.
Seems like too high of a risk to chance it. My guess is teammates told him what he took never got them caught.
Hope he learns from it and impacts the team when he can play.

pretty much this. Stupid. The consequences are high enough. You get paid enough. You should know. And if you don't? Then don't take it.
In this day and age, if I were Jake, I would SUE THE ***** out of the manufacturer of that supplement. Unregulated or not, if there are items that they put into the supplement that ARE NOT listed on the ingredients they are liable for heavy heavy damages - especially to pro and collegiate careers. If he doesn't do that, it's pretty telling, IMHO.

I hate the fact that I agree with you. Knowing the consequences, how can somebody in that position not know exactly what they're ingesting?
