They should call his bluff. No way he leaves with that recruiting class coming in.
The guy sounds like a real piece of work. Has a **** poor season and he then tries to leverage for a raise when the school has known budget issues. What a scumbag.
This describes about 75% of all D1 college coaches.
I'm sure he's using the USF offer, and loss of recruits as leverage toward UNLV, but I gotta give this guy credit for making it work.
And if it's true that he had his recruiting class convinced to follow him to USF, then, money not withstanding, this guy is a helluva good recruiter.
@edgraney: Source confirms that if UNLV extends Dave Rice, he will likely stay. He wants extra $$ put back into the program, not for his pockets.
So he wants a raise of the basketball budget instead of his own salary?
That doesn't appear to be any leverage whatsoever to me.
There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear.
Everybody look what's going down.
Dave Rice is leveraging a USF job offer along with his recruiting class of 2014's potential to get an extension at UNLV. It's pretty easy to see.
Rice hasn't won a NCAA tournament game and has underachieved his entire time there as a head coach.
UNLV will likely give an extension to Rice and it is a total d-bag move on Rice's part. Earn your raise!
^ It will only work if UNLV is dumb enough to buy into it. If UNLV is smart, the only way he gets an extension or raise is if he wins in the tournament next year. If he doesn't even make the tournament next year, you'd have to believe that his *** is on the hot seat.
