So basically, Rice is using USF to get UNLV to pay him more money since they wouldn't normally pay him more money because he hasn't accomplished anything.

Cleary Rice is using this recruiting class as leverage for a better contact. Which makes the desperation of garnering such a class even more suspect and unsavory.

Meltdown over at UNLV forums. Some want Rice to go cause he is a terrible coach. Some want him to stay because of the recruiting class. Some want him to stay cause they can't afford anybody better.

My Schadenfreude is tingling.

I guess it depends on if he actually wants to leave UNLV first. Then I want to know who he plans on playing for, the scouts or the team. If it's the scouts then **** him, I can't stand players that do that no matter how good they are. If he plans on being a team player then I'd take him.

Count me as a guy that would be perfectly happy if he stayed away for the following reasons:

1) There seems to be other high impact senior transfers out there that could a) have as much production b) provide senior leadership. Sometimes these freshmen leave after one season without making any impact but get drafted on potential, however, you know what you're going to get with transfers.

2) If he already got his money for choosing UNLV but ends up here, we'll somehow be the ones that get in trouble. (Too much anti-ISU history here to be completely kidding about this.)

Per that last post, could have tested waters to get a raise.

If he did leave, wonder if his recruits told him they'd follow and that was his sell to suitors?

As someone else said, that's a heck of a salary they offered...must be banking on hoping they are getting a sustained talent pool.

"UNLV expects to hear Dave Rice’s decision soon, maybe by Saturday, and sources tell the Sun the Rebels’ coach is expected to accept an extension and possible raise from UNLV discussed at a meeting Friday evening. "

Interesting article...didn't realize he was a UNLV alum.

Started salivating when I read the top recruits want to stay together and pictured a scenario where he leaves, Vaughn decided to come here, the other two guys follow, etc. Dreamers going to dream....

I'm sure he's using the USF offer, and loss of recruits as leverage toward UNLV, but I gotta give this guy credit for making it work.

And if it's true that he had his recruiting class convinced to follow him to USF, then, money not withstanding, this guy is a helluva good recruiter.

I apologize in advance, because I just noticed this thread, and I'm not going to sift thru all 7,000 posts...
So forgive me if this has already been posted. But why hasn't Vaughn signed a LOI yet with UNLV? Yes, I know he committed to them, but he still hasn't signed. Is there a difference?

Committed in between signing periods. Next signing period mid-April. Can change mind until LOI signed.

Whether is was deciding to get married, loosing hundreds playing roulette, getting drunk and cuddling with a bum on the street, going to a Celine Dion concert, deciding to play hoops at UNLV,... we have all made bad decisions in Vegas. That's why what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. You can't really blame a kid for making a poor decision in that city.
