I'm consistently on that train in regards to his public relations.

Yeah, that makes sense. Obviously our AD has a huge public relations problem. The huge drop in budget, fan support at an all time low, No new building projects being completed or in the works. JP obviously has this fan base turned against ISU. Can't imagine why we still have the guy here.

Fred can coach in the NBA at any point, now, 5 years, 10 years etc.. He's got one shot to coach at ISU and that is right now. He leaves and there is no going back likely. Fred will be here for another 5-10 years. Then bolt for the NBA. His kids love Gilbert and his kids could likely play for him at ISU. It's not about the $$, Fred is a millionaire. Multi millionaire. Sure he could make a couple more million a year but he wouldn't leave for that reason. He will leave because of the challenge and IMO right now he hasn't achieved what he set out to achieve yet with his alma matter. This program is just at the tip of becoming a Top 10 program year in and year out and to leave now would set it back quite a bit and he knows this.

I do not see any current coach being at their school for the next 30 years. If 30 years is what is required to say a coach is not leaving, than start the headlines: Coach K to leave Duke.

That's not the requirement, you could even use 20 years.

Coach K will never happen again. Once guys like him and Boeheim retire, you will hardly ever, if never, see a coach stay at a school for that long of a time period.

People are just setting up for disappointment if they think Fred is going to be a lifer at ISU.

blah blah blah. this is going to be said over and over and over again by people. could it be this year? sure. could it be in ten years? sure.

i refuse to get caught up in coaching searching and rumors when we are in the midst of one of our best seasons ever.

What's the Big 12 network? Is that the channel where they hire scrub announcers to do Cyclone games?

I don't expect that. But based on his own words -- which I realize could just be all for the crowd -- it seems like he wanted to stick in Ames until the kids are out of school.

That's good enough. Hoiberg needs to build us up enough to make the school a destination, even when there's a coaching transition. It's asking for a lot, but it seems possible, which is more than we can really ask for.

Some conference titles and a national championship wouldn't hurt the cause.

How many pages until we get an open letters thread to CFH?

Then change avatars to Hoiberg

Then after 6 months we are back to cat gifs

I don't care if Fred leaves as long as he cuts down the nets in April and leaves us under good hands.

Which is my point. Essentially no one is talking on a 30 year or even 20 year scale except you. Saying a coach is going to leave someday because you think he will not be at a school in 20 to 30 years is saying nothing.

If Fred is coaching at all 14 to 20 years from now, it is more likely to be at ISU than anywhere else imo.

On the issue of money, he may make more per year, but he is not going to get any more in gauranteed money then he has now. Depending on how he does this year the pot may be sweetened even more. One could make the case he is in a stronger position to make more money long term staying at ISU for a while. If he bolts for the NBA now and it doesn't work out, he could be out of a job in 3 years. Obviously he'll always have a job in coaching, but it's not a slam dunk that going to the NBA is whats best financially right now. So...like you said...not going to be about money.

Just commentators taking a shot. They have a 50/50 chance of being right, so why not? If they are right, then they look like insiders and geniuses. If they are wrong......so what? Worrying about it won't do any good.

I attribute them saying this due to our obvious success under him. Boy, this conference really hates us being dominate/constantly near the top. Fred's not going anywhere until we are a constant deep NCAA tourney program, Big 12 Champs and until all his boys are done playing for him. Then, I could see him take a look at the NBA....but I doubt it. He'll be in Ames for a long-long time.

I disagree when you say that he can just go to the nba whenever he wants.
While that maybe true in a sense I don't get the feeling that Fred would just take any job in the nba. Therefore, if he truly has nba aspirations, he's gonna take the job that is the best fit. That job may open up next year or 10 years from now but I do feel he will leave when that right job opens up

This thread is ridiculous! How can so many people be giving credibility to a Big 12 game's color guy or the studio team making Fred to the Wolves one of his/their "bold predictions?" Anyone that looks at Fred's resume can see that he may go to the NBA some day, but there is ZERO reporting to back that day being soon. Also, Tibs is a top 5 coach in the NBA and should continue to coach the Bulls as long as he wants. Adelman has a safe job as far as I have heard.

The guy always worried about the girl leaving him usually pushes her away. Toughen up, Cyclone fans! Plus, if you are always worried about getting kicked in the nuts it is bad for your posture.

The comment about Orr being here for 14 years is a good point. I think Fred respects that and had said Orr is most influential person in his life beyond his parents. I'm less worried than I was 10 minutes ago.

Of course when I crack the beers for the game my paranoia could increase.
