Amato's for breakfast. My favorite is the mistake omelet along with sharing an order of ricotta cheese pancakes. They also make their own sausage which is how Sammy Amato got started in the food business. Sammy likes to mingle with the customers and loves to share stories with newcomers. A handful of the regulars have their own key to the place so that they can open up early and start the coffee. The host for Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives claims that it is his favorite of all of the places that he has reviewed.

In a vacuum, maybe.

You can live in Des Moines and be in the heart of Cyclone Country. Can you say the same for Omaha?

Prosecution rests.

This is too true. Omaha is the convergence of the majority of Husker nation and the loudest and dumbest hawkeyes outside of Johnson county. No one would ever mistake Iowa for being the hippest but driving across the river into nebraska is like taking a time machine back to 1996.

It's like a non-stop Farmers only commercial over here.

NOBODY GOT NOTHING ABOUT LUCKY BUCKET!

I've been a couple of times and highly recommend it. The guys who run it really know how to make a great beer. They also make a decent Vodka, but I haven't had a chance to try their rum.

What is worse....at least back when NE was in the Big 12, you were still in a Big 12 market when you were in Omaha. You don't even get that now, you're stuck with all NE all the time with a heavy dose of Big 10 thrown in.

No Thx.

You talking about Joe Tess? I loved that place when I was a pup. Went back for the first time in over 20 years ago two summers ago. Other than the location, that place was still ****ing awesome.

That sounds like the place, I actually liked the carp. Carp and the SAC museum were the highlights of my business trip there some years ago. The locals I was working with kept trying to take me to steakhouses. I can get a great steak anywhere I said, take me to something different, something very exclusively Omaha. The rest of the city was bland and lifeless, like a smaller Columbus, OH.

Second the people saying Dundee. Its a great area with great bars/ food.

People like Pitch Pizza in Dundee

Would recommend Jazz in the old market. Jambalya for sure....

Also, I highly recommend Josyln art museum. Well worth the admisson, if you like art or that stuff

As for the money, can't recommend Anthony's steakhouse. If you want a good steak, go to 801 chophouse. Yes, it's expensive.

I'd say it's well worth the admission since it's free. They received a grant and it's been free for several months.

Try not to get murdered.

Yes, try not to get murdered. I've been here for 25 years and I get murdered every day. And my friends are getting murdered all the time. We even hang out in that terrible area around TD Ameritrade Park until 2 a.m. sometimes - and we get murdered.

I will say this: The best restaurant (on a taste per buck basis) is Lazlos Brewery and Grill.

Great beer and excellent food that is extremely reasonably priced. Too bad it's way out on 192nd.

I have spent significant time in Omaha and Des Moines. Both are good. DSM is a little cheaper cost of living, better traffic, closer to cyclone country. OMA more of a city feel. I like both a lot though. Would pick DSM area to settle if I could.

He says that about every place he has visited, over 300 so far.

Big Momma's Kitchen on the north side of Omaha shot a pilot for a television show that must not have been picked up. The pilot was pretty terrible.

This place is very good. They carry a decent mirco-brew called Empyrean, which is out of Lincoln (I think). Voodoo chicken is really good. Only draw back is, it's way west. Good thing is, it's by my house.

There is a new Brewery that opened up in the old market that I really want to try out. Borgata Brewery and Distillery. Very nice people started it up. I cannot get to excited about Storz, old Ricks Boatyard.

Lucky Bucket is ok, I like there certified evil. But I think as far as Omaha Metro Brewerys Nebraska Brewing Company and Infusion are the best.
