A premonition I suppose but I don't think Kane's ankle will keep him from playing - not at full strength for sure but he seems like a guy that needs that attention and can be a little dramatic. I bet he plays and gives us some pretty good minutes but maybe not enough to win the game. We'll see soon enough, Hilton will get us an extra 7-8 points as long as the refs aren't wearing blue. Fingers crossed.

He won't play and he shouldn't if he's been hobblig around like everyone says he has. I would love to beat KU as much as anyone, but we need Kane for both tournaments, not one game.

I don't think its a depth issue its more of a replacing an all american type player. IA couldn't just replace Marble if he went out.
If Kane is out for any extended time, karma has come calling for all the jokes about Iowans depth. We could use a little depth now.

I think we are okay bc Montee is basically a guy who plays starter minutes anyway as is Long. Def not as good a team w/o Kane but still a good team. They may just get it done a different way. The great thing is, our tourney resume would still be look good as long as we can win a few games in this stretch due to the conference having a great rep. Not too mention as tough as the conference looks, I don't see anyone breezing through it. The winner of the big 12 could be a team with a few more losses than usual.

Losing a few games mid season could be a blessing for this team. We weren't going undefeated this season anyway. I'd much rather lose a couple in this tough stretch of games and let Kane get healthy.

Having him back after the injury heals will make this team all the more confident-- setting up a big streak of victories and momentum to end the regular season on.

If Kane doesn't play, I hope Edozie and SDW are prepared to give about 10 quality minutes. With Naz and MM sharing point duties, Thomas primarily playing SG with Naz, those guys will need a sub or our team will be gased halfway through.

I assume we play a bit more zone tomorrow. Pack it in and see if Kansas can beat us through the 3. They've been inconsistent from deep this year.

Zone would also be easier on Kane.

Kane may be the MVP (or even BIg 12 MVP), but Niang is the guy who we have no duplicate for what he brings in terms of feeding the ball to a post scorer.

I'm confident if he's limited for a while that Morris, Long and Thomas will pick up the scoring. Hogue and Ejim are capable of monster rebounding games. Niang is capable of running the offense and finding the open shooter as well.

Is it possible that Kane's injury could be a long term positive for this team? We know it's not serious, and that he will be back. In the meantime, the team can go back to what I always saw as its biggest strength. Having four different guys who could take over and dominate for a stretch during any game. Kane may be the best player on the team, but he isn't head and shoulders above all the other players on the team. The last couple games, it seemed like the team was relying too heavily on Kane. This could force them to get back to the team work that worked so well for them so far this season.
Or maybe I'm just trying to put lipstick on a pig.

If Kane can't go, or plays limited minutes, I expect Hoiberg will be telling Thomas 'You need to step up and score the rock this game.' And I bet he comes through.

I definitely want to see ISU win this one, but I am more concerned about Kane’s wellbeing than I am about this specific game. I have never seen a player who demonstrated a more intense will to win than DeAndre. This guy is incredible. Previous to Kane’s injury I was very confident that Iowa State would dismantle Kansas at Hilton. Now, with our All-American candidate out with an injury, I don’t feel as good about our chances. Even if Kane plays, it is unlikely that he will be at a 100 %. So, in this case the better team may not come away with a win, but we will have to see. This is a tough team and I hope they can step up and "Win One for the Gipper" Go Cyclones!

We need to win this game and steal one of @tx @ku @bu or @osu to win the conf IMO. Losing to ku at home and we will need to get two of those road games IMO. I think the conf title will come down to us and ku. Okie st just isn't same team without the big man.

I think you are pretty spot on with this. @KU, @OSU, and @BU are going to be very difficult games for all four of those teams (including us). The conference will be won and lost in games like @OU, @KSU, @UT, and @WVU. I think that grouping is where we don't have a margin of error since we already dropped one of them. And protecting home court is vital.

If OU gets one of the next two or even both of them (@KSU and @BU), they might join that first group of contenders.

I can't imagine he wont go. The guy is tough as nails and he came to Iowa State for games like tonight's. I imagine he is in considerable pain, but the replay shows that it wasn't as bad looking of a sprain as you usually see, although his reaction suggests otherwise. Give him some cortozone, put him in front of 14,000 people, he won't even remember it hurts by the time the game starts.
