This year is different than the last two. We've already blown our non-conference performances out of the water by comparison. If we finish top 4 in the Big 12, we're solidly in. No bubble talk this year.

That is, assuming we take care of business in Hawaii - regardless of who we play.

Yeah.. the last couple years we had zero noncon resume (we lost to everyone worth a damn), and that hurt us. We could play the sisters of the poor from here on to round out our nonconference and we still wouldnt need to worry about our noncon SOS as far as getting in.

That said, its always good to have more to add to your buffer\more evidence for a higher seed.

Certainly. Point is, it does not matter who we play as long as we win.

Well yeah.. if we go undefeated for the full schedule we'll be a 1 seed.

But we probably wont. Given that, our seed would be helped with more quality noncon wins. Which would be nice as it looks like the big 12 is going to be pretty damn good in its top 6.

What makes me the most nervous about Akron is that Treadwell has averaged 13 FTs his last 3 games. Hope he doesn't get our bigs in foul trouble tomorrow.

South Carolina beats Saint Mary's 78-71. Maybe we see Frank again?
I couldn't believe it when I woke up this morning to see South Carolina beat St Mary's. St Mary's was the team that I thought would give us the most fits but now that's out of the question. Now it's Boise but they barely beat Hawaii. I still think we slip up somewhere in this tournament though I really hope we don't.

1.) Did we not play in the Big 12 the past two season we were on the bubble? You should always be wanting any win against good RPI teams...unless you want to play the #1 overall seed in the second round again, thereby watching a team otherwise talented enough to be a Sweet 16 or Elite Eight squad.

2.) What the hell are you talking about? It is not an either-or situation. You do not forfeit any wins over OSU, KU, or Baylor if you win against St. Mary's. The more the better.

The reason ISU was on the bubble the last two years was because of lack of quality wins mixed with bad losses. So far this season we have done a much better job with both those. While an undefeated St Mary's would of been nice, ISU's RPI is just fine right now. We don't "need" RPI boosters.

Winning the tournament would not be a bad thing. But beating Boise State would be the best case scenario if we end up playing them.

We're currently 7th in RPI. Of the teams left:

Boise State (21)
Akron (71)
South Carolina (81)

Obviously South Carolina's RPI goes up if they beat Boise State, but Boise State would easily be the best win out of the teams left.

To put it in perspective, our two current best wins are BYU (17) and Iowa (26). So as of right now, Boise State would be our second best win from an RPI standpoint.

Somewhere in the U.S.
Just to clear this up one final time......since there seems to be so much concern about it....does the RPI count (matter) at the time you play and beat the team, or only what they are at the end of the season?

Only really matters at the end of the season.

Right now it is.
You always need RPI boosters. According to you and a few others, then the past two years did not "need" RPI boosters in the non-conference either. Made the tournament, right?
The goal is not to just make the tournament, but have success. Getting a good seed is crucial to that and thus you want to play St Mary's over So Carolina. It case you did not realize this, we have to play someone in this tournament, we can not back out. No matter whether we win or lose those games, it is much better for it to be against good RPI teams.

End of season, this is different from beating "ranked" opponents. Top 100 wins is what the committee really looks at with RPI that and below 100 losses
