Clive, Pella, Decorah, Cedar Falls, all come to mind when talking small towns in Iowa.

I always think it's funny how they pick out a specific suburb. How different is Clive from Urbandale, Waukee, Johnston, Grimes, etc?

When traveling all over Iowa to my kids sporting events the towns I thought were nice included Storm Lake, Grinnell, Carroll, Waverly and Pella. I just noticed 80% of these towns have a small college.

The editors narrowed their top picks from 500 communities with 25,000 or fewer residents. They examined the median household incomes, home prices, crime and unemployment rates and average commutes and proximity to large cities.
I'm guessing that's why...

Urbandale = 39,463 population (too big)
Waukee = lower per capita income
Johnston = lower per capita income
Grimes = lower per capita income
Marshalltown = sucks balls
