Not an Iowa native, so only made it down a couple times during college.

Worked the IMAC booth one year (the I milked a cow booth- go check it out if you are going to the fair!)

By far the most common question that we got from grown adults was "is this a boy cow or girl cow?

................what exactly do you think we're having you and all these little kids do here?

oh, since this is a confessions thread, I confess that that was the day I silently mocked a whole lot of people for being complete morons.

It just goes to show that not everyone in Iowa has even the slightest clue about agriculture. I don't think there are enough o's in stoooopid for that, though.

I worked in the barn with all the animals on display where people can look and touch them (forget what its called). I worked there for one year and got so frustrated I never went back. I honestly wanted to punch people in the face for the redic comments they would make and I would overhear them say crazy things to their kids and when Id correct them they would get all mad.

I always like checking out the biggest boar and biggest bull. Those things are freaking massive! I think I read that this year's boar is 1300 pounds.

The closed that loophole. Now they are driving rivets through your hand if you want to leave and come back.

What I do (because I hate lines not because im cheap) on the weekends when the lines are long is just wait for a big group of people all walking back in at the same time, they all just hold up their wrists to show the stamps and there is no way they can see all of them nor can they run you down because then the gate would be wide open. On top of that they dont really care to begin with. I do this at concerts to get into vip as well lol.

Lot of state fair haters on here

Usually the same people who freak out when someone refers to Iowa as an "agricultural state".

Nothing wrong with the State Fair. I don't look forward to it by any means, but I'm sure I'll go each year while I live in the area.

Won't wait in line to buy a ticket but will wait for a big group to get in free. Sounds cheap to me.

You know you can buy your ticket in advance at Hy-Vee (discounted) so you don't have to wait in line at the ticket booth.

As an East High grad, I'm obligated to go to the fair on East Side night, but other than that, I'd prefer to avoid it. One night of drinking overpriced beer and seeing a few tools that never did anything with their lives other than of course becoming "diehard" hawk fans is enough for me.

I hate that so many people in a state like Iowa act like they have never seen a sheep, pig, or cow before. It's probably because they haven't. The bigger kids that poke their fingers into the sheep wool pisses me off too, because it takes an hour and a half to fit a sheep for show. (Little ones I forgive). Sheep showman rant over.

I saw the only true cat fight I've witnessed in the Bud Tent on East High night. It was awesome.
