careful with the ice melt. I used it a few years ago and now my driveway is chipping.

Yeah and I have new concrete, I need to keep that stuff off the drive for a few years.
Get back in your cage or make me some lunch.
Interesting. Certain kind do that or is that supposedly a side effect of all of them?

The salt based stuff is nasty on concrete. They make specifc ice melt that will not hurt concrete.

I agree, I refuse to use ice melt as it chips the driveway and kills the grass. Sand tracks into the house and grinds on the hardwood floors
I prefer to use 'Oil Dry' (a 20 lbs bag is $3.00 at Wal Mart) and cast it out on the ice. Doesn't melt the ice but gives great traction. Plus when it warms up faster when the sun comes back out. Kitty litter works good too. Best part is they never run out of it.
I have a buddy who is part owner in a business that makes a product called "Safe Walk". It is made out of corn by products and is safe on new concrete and works just as good as anything out there. I have a newer house and have used it and no cracks or chips at all. It is also safe for your grass when you scoop the snow/ice off into your yard. The other stuff would kill grass.
It's called "Safe Walk" and it is good stuff and better yet safe for your concrete and your yards. They carry it at Hy-Vee I know and other retailers.
