I still would like to see Boozer on the court more. The guy brings some size and athleticism that we are lacking in the guard court right now. I was relatively happy with the play of our guards yesterday, but if we are not going to redshirt Boozer, lets give him a few minutes every game.

I noticed Cameron Lee in for a minute (literally one minute). I hope to see him get some time as well against some of the weaker teams we have coming up. I don't think he is the answer to our PG problems, but I do think he brings a little more size to the position, which would help greatly on defense.

We have five games coming up against what I view as significantly inferior competetion. Hopefully the youngs (Vette, Boozer, C Johnson) will get more minutes to show their stuff and we can get Wesley a lot of time to rest and recup.

I am assuming that Garrett's performance yesterday earned him more minutes

Ok I wasn't sure about that, I thought basketball had different rules, as in the percantage of time they have played in games...

Nope, not possible. As soon as they play one second, the redshirt is not available, per NCAA rules. (Unless it is medical)

I wouldn't be surprised if each all of the sudden has a bad ankle keeping them out of games. That happens allot.

Not sure of the actual rules, but I don't think that is accurate. From what I understand is a player can redshirt if they play less than 20% of the games (basketball only) or something like that.

That's why redshirting Wesley has be discussed as of late (without concern whether he'd be eligible or even having to use a medical redshirt)

Again, not sure, but I have heard otherwise.

I really dont think Boozer is as good as he might have hinted in one of the exhibition games where he drained some threes. He really is not a great shooter yet. But the reason he isnt starting starts and begins on the defensive end.

I don't think Boozer grew up playing ball with defense in mind, although he has the athleticism to do so. He's a good shooter, just streaky, once he fine tunes his shot he could be unstoppable. Luckily he's a freshman and has time to improve.

I don't think Boozer is anything other than a spot shooter right now.

From NCAA.org:

Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you. You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.

I think Vette is getting redshirted. I'm not sure about Boozer however. Also not sure on the redshirt rules for BBall so a redshirt may be out of the question since both have played, but something tells me it isn't.

Nevermind...if the above post is accurate of NCAA rules.

The bylaw that specifies that is 14.2.3, which can be found here. There are a whole bunch of exemptions, but basically you can't just be a "normal" player and get a 5th year after playing a regular season basketball game. For example, had the NCAA not ruled Lucca ineligible before the season and we played him a limited number of games before they ruled him ineligible, he could have had another year.

You step foot on the court during a regular season game as a redshirt, and that's a year of eligibility.

I hate to say it, but I really do not see Vette or Boozer, red-shirt or not, contributing other than to the practice squad. I hope they prove me wrong, but I just don't see it.

I guess it is a good thing you aren't our coach then. Both guys have chances to be solid contributers for us over their careers.

Not everyone on the team is going to contribute. Most coaches only play 8-10 players in the rotation. So that leaves several scholarship players sitting on the bench. Not everyone Mac recruits will be a starter. Hopefully the people that dont get a ton of minutes accept it and dont leave.

I agree, but writing off a couple of true freshmen already and saying they are only practice squad material already is a bit ridiculous.
