If someone you worked with that long and were presumably good friends with was accused of something like that, how do you not follow up on that more, if only to prove his innocence to yourself? If somebody else higher up told JoePa that he was not talk to him on his own or pursue it any further because the university was doing their own investigation, why the hell do you not come out and say that as part of your statement? The way that whole thing reads does nothing to remove suspicion that he knew about a possible cover-up. It's sad that somebody that looked like he would go down as one of the good guys may turn out to be one of the worst right at the very end.

I just listened to part of the press conference. The DA stated specifically, none of those involved went to the police or any child protective agency and their inaction allowed a predator to continue abusing children.

Joe Pa, if he has any dignity at all, should step down immediately.

Because you can't make this stuff up...

Check out the title of Jerry Sandusky's a****iography:

Amazon.com: Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story (9781582613574): Jerry Sandusky: Books

Frightening.

Imagine if he (Joe Pa) had just gone to the police or said to his AD, you go to the police or I'm going to. He'd be a hero right now.

That is some sick 23 pages of reading. I can't believe no one thought, 'hey, we should actually tell the ******* cops!'

Paterno had a great career and look how he's going to destroy it. This will be what he's remembered for. How do you not report this? Friend or not, you wouldn't follow up on a report like this?

Sandusky is going to love prison showers.

I can't believe the 28 year old GA didn't think "Hey I should kick the crap out of this guy who is anally raping a 10 year old in the shower." Instead, he though, "I should go home and call my dad."

It would be very disturbing to see, but my first reaction would be to call the cops, not go home and tell daddy.

I agree. As a father, if I were in the GA's shoes, I'd be on trial right now for murdering that SOB Sandusky if I saw him doing what he's accused to have done to any child.

I really hope for JoePa's sake that somebody higher up flat-out lied and told him an investigation was occuring and his lawyer is having him withhold that from his statements for some reason at this time. It just doesn't add up that a human being can hear something of that magnitude, make one phone call and never follow up on it. Surely he at least called Sandusky to ask him if it any of it was true? No mention of that in his statement either. I think Paterno has more to say and is being told to keep his mouth shut for the time being. Maybe I'm just being naive.

Aside from what the official story is, for Joe Pa to say that he didn't hear/know what was going on inside the football department with this guy is not believable. Too small of a circle for way too many years. It's a head coach looking the other way with a big tme problem with his long time buddy.

It's too, bad. Joe Pa has (had IMO) a great reputation and this one will dog him long after he is gone.

I'm not sure if it's even Paterno's lawyer that's running this show, which is a problem.

His statement was released by his son, who is A lawyer. Maybe this one requires someone other than your own kid, Joe.

Or maybe Joe did know what was going on and that is why he didn't just call the cops.

My first thought was that the GA might be foreign. Because I couldn't figure out why a (assumed to be) 28-year old white male wouldn't do something immediately either.

Because most foreigners or non-white Americans are pro-child rape?

No. Because they would be less likely to know our legal system and what the correct course of action should be. That and fear of actions against them by the University for accusing a well-respected, high-ranking person of something pretty horrendous.

Honestly, if I were in another country (heck, probably even when I was at ISU) if I were to witness something like that involving Jamie Pollard or the like, I'd like to think I'd immediately jump in and kick ***. Realistically though, I think I would probably call my husband or parents to a. calm myself down and b. recognize that I do need to report this immediately. Which is what the GA did.

No, you would call the police.

No. I'm obviously wording this all very wrong. *If* this person is in fact, an international student, try putting yourself in their shoes in this situation. Maybe you would still go in and kick *****. I know for me personally, it would probably be so completely shocking that I would not react correctly (going into the shower and asking what the **** is going on here? and then calling the cops). I would likely call someone else first and then report it.

Regardless, it sounds like the GA and the janitor are the only people who did the right thing in this whole situation. And besides the victims, they had the least amount of power and sway as far as getting it moved up the chain and having action taken on it.
