That last team Tubberville had at Tech was not exactly good. Tech and Auburn have been pretty equal over the years. That SEC speed thing is the biggest line of crap going. A close second is how physical the Big 10 is.

You're right about the "line of crap..." Oh, but wait a minute...how many national titles in a row for the SEC? Auburn, Alabama, Florida...speed kills. :pwink:

Yea, they are simply better teams. Most are also cheating as was Kiffin at UTjr. And the SEC line is very tiring, especially for Tennessee fans who have a team on par with ISU. If you can only cheer for your conference and not your team, that is pretty sad.

Please don't jump to conclusions...been a Big XII fan since the Big 8. Went to my first game at Clyde William Field when I was 6 years old. Graduated from a Big 8 school. Just sharing my observations. For the record, my teams in order: ISU, Mizzou, Tennessee.

Tennessee/ISU this year would probably be a coin flip, with home field advantage being the swing factor.

I didn't jump to conclusions. You laid out the SEC company line twice. SEC speed and your reply to that was well if it wasn't SEC speed how did Bama, Barners, and Florida win national titles. Its just the typical SEC rhetoric from fans from SEC teams that are not winning. You hear it all the time from Vol fans, Ole Miss fans, Miss. St fans, USCjr fans, Kentucky fans, and Vandy fans.

The SEC speed thing is perhaps the biggest farce in college football. ALL good teams have speed. The SEC has better players. Not more speed, better players and better coaches. Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Spurrier, they're all really good coaches. Mack Brown isn't as good as any of them. Neither is Bob Stoops. Have they been better teams? Yes, but it wasn't just because they are sooo much faster than everyone else.

The Big Ten is still probably the most physical mainly because you have teams like Iowa, Wisconsin, and MSU that run a system based on power and not on speed/spacing. DOes that mean they're better for it? No, but it's a very physical conference.

In the case of Alabama and Florida that is true. For Auburn it is more like, "Money talks, BS walks."

Probably stuff you've heard him say recently on midwest media--but here are the highlights.
1) Entering Fall camp basically healthy.
2) Looking forward to Fall camp opening so they can determine the starter at QB.
3) No doubt the deepest team he's had. Still have some work to do in terms of building more depth, but things are much better than when he arrived.
4) Feels this will be his best team so far.
5) Was asked about his "internet moments"--joked about the Wally World youtube. Says anything that elevates the awareness and image of the program, he's all for.
6) Says both offensive and defensive lines will be good--defensive line should be better than most people think.

Thanks for the recap.

The d-line could surprise some people. Especially if McDonough finally comes along and plays with a low pad level consistently. That will give them a rush up the middle with Rump hopefully commanding double teams.

Texas would have beat Alabama rather easily if Colt doesn't get hurt. Just saying.

Thanks for the recap, any chance you could give us the station, I'd like to hear the podcast.

I was right with you on the Mack Brown statement...totally true. But Bob Stoops is a top elite coach and he takes a back seat to nobody in the country. Florida has made several runs at Stoops in the last 10 years as well as several of the biggest programs in the country. There's a reason. The guy can recruit and can coach his butt off. Think of how many OC/DC's he's replaced in the last 10 years...it's breathtaking and he just plugs 'em in and wins.

Btw, I hate OU.

I am one of the guys that thinks Stoops is over rated. Not saying he isn't a good coach, but he is not great. Noone that I know has laid more eggs in the big game than Stoops. Yes, he has a national championship, but his OU teams have been an embarrassment to the Big 12 in BCS games several times.

Stoops is a great coach if you don't have any of those other guys. Those guys have won multiple NCs (Outside of Miles who constantly finds himself in the hunt). They have won multiple big games. Bob Stoops has a record of losing big games. I wasn't saying he's not an elite coach. I was saying he's not one of those guys and if you are going to say negative things about Mack Brown, you have to do the same with Stoops since Brown has done much more than he has.

Won 4 out of the last 6 Red River Shootouts. Won a National Championship over what was considered perhaps the best college football team to ever take the field. He also probably would have a second if it weren't for the McCoy injury. Ok, so maybe it's not much more but it's certainly equal. If Stoops would have won some of his big ones, I would consider him a better coach, but he didn't. I guess I would consider them equals and probably pretty close to equal to Les Miles. They aren't in Urban Meyer or Nick Sabans league.
