I disagree. Lets say Baylor and ISU end up in C-USA: Within a few years, Baylor would have much more success in that league than we would. Our recruiting will suffer greatly not being in the Big 12. Baylor's will too, but it will be tougher to convince out of state players to come to ISU playing in a conference lower than the big 12.

I was just saying that the only logical landing spot for Baylor would be C-USA because of their location and lack of success. While say Kansas, K-State, and ISU could potentially head to the MWC and make it a BCS level conference. Baylor would most likely opt to stay out of that mix with the MWC when they are sitting right next to their old buddies in a much weaker conference like C-USA.

This letter sounds exactly like Beebe's stance over the past 2 years.

"ah, well, we'll just wait and see what happens, then we'll decide what to do."

NOT the right thing to be doing right now. Unless you consider screwing your University, your athletic department, your student athletes, and your entire fan base to be 'the right thing.'

But I would expect nothing more.

I guess I dont see this as armageddon. I really dont like being the Longhorn's and Sooner's whipping boy.
The Mt West is not a shabby conference at all. Last I checked Utah, BYU, and TCU are pretty darn salty. Add Boise St, Iowa State, Kansas, and K State and you have one heck of a football/basketball conference.
The MWC would surely become a BCS league at that point.
I'm 100% in favor of this if it works out exactly that way.

I think JP and GG are exploring some contingency plans while they are waiting for those other sellouts from the South Division to tell us what our fate is.

The really funny thing in all of this is that Nebraska and Mizzou thought they were God's gift to college athletics because the Big 10 is rumored to want them. Looks like the Pac 10 deal just bumped them both off of their high horses.

Would you like ADJP and the PGG to openly discuss their plans on the Internet?

What any uninformed post.

To everyone saying the MWC is good enough:

STOP THINKING ABOUT ONLY FOOTBALL.

As always, 3 scenarios:

1. Big 12 remains intact (or mostly) -- HAHAHAH
2. ISU to Big 10 -- Unlikely
3. Doomsday.

The problem with the MWC is not a competition issue, it is a money issue. Even being at the bottom of the Big 12 barrell, we still make far more money now than any of the schools in the MWC (except TCU). The collapse of the Big 12 will cripple us financially.

I think if ISU, KU, KSU, & maybe Baylor were added to the MWC and they dropped a couple bottom feeders (see Wyoming), the basketball would be great. Are you talking about track?

Well, if you read that letter, let me point out a few things:

  • "However, we also recognize that the long-term viability of the Big 12 Conference is not in our control – it is in the hands of just a few of our fellow member institutions."

That doesn't sound like they're doing much beyond wait and see.

And this statement:
  • We are doing everything in our power to represent the best interests of Iowa State in these discussions

tells me that they're doing everything in their power to back the following statements made today.

  • We believe the Big 12 Conference is the perfect fit for Iowa State University.
  • We are committed to our membership in the Big 12, and we are optimistic that the conference will remain intact.

If you ask me, they're talking about their plans on the internet already. Or, their lack of plans.

I was actually considering basketball too.

Oh yeah --

If we end up in a mid-major conference:

Goodbye Rhoads.
Goodbye Mayor.
Goodbye Pollard.

Those guys will be fine. We'll be left chizzzzzed.

Let's not forget to give credit to the three sell-outs in the North Division...

Exactly. This whole thing snowballed with Mizzou/Nebby looking like they were bolting. That caused other schools to start to look around, as well as it's causing the Pac 10 and SEC to start fishing around too.

How fitting would it be if Mizzou started all of this and then didn't get invited to the Pac 10 or Big 10??? That would be right in line with their underachieving, close but no-cigar history.
