Mods over-reaching?

Don't get me wrong, I get the idea of moderators and agree that they are necessary. But recently, I have noticed the deletion of several posts (one being my own) in seemingly controlled conversation.

Sometimes I seems the "God-mode" (wolfenstein 3D reference) that the moderators operate under has gone to their heads.

At least leave a "post by username was deleted" comment so others can see how inappropriate we've been.:rolleyes5cz:

Comment on this quick ... it may disappear.

Oh and just so I don't seem like a complete ***: Go CycloneFanatic! - it's 90% of my internet time and my favorite site over all the 'net.

I actually agree with you for once Clones_Jer! (Mark this on your calender folks, it only happens once a decade). Personally, I'd especially like to know why entire threads, or portions of threads are deleted, at least through PM or email. I can thnk of one modeator definately, and possibly a second or third, that has a kind of "God-Complex" with their power here. However, because I'm such a caring soul, I won't name names, or even mention initials. There's a fine line between moderation and authoritarianism, keep that in mind... Oh, and last but certainly not least, "fight the authority!!"

FYI, I moved this to the Site Feedback forum. Oops, there I go, flexing my Mod Superpowers.

Perhaps it should be obvious why some of those things are deleted...like certain adults' posts in another thread about picking up middle school and jr. high girls. Certain folks, like maybe people in law enforcement, might not find that so humorous...

Dateline, meet CycloneFanatic...

Why I oughtta...

FYI, I moved this to the Site Feedback forum. Oops, there I go, flexing my Mod Superpowers.

The thing that, at least myself, is most bothersome is when posts/threads are deleted/closed without letting anyone involved knowing WHY. I had a thread deleted recently,no idea why. All I know is I was on my buddy's computer posting, came home, and the thread was gone. If you'd at least let us know why, and/or what happened, it wouldn't be an issue.

I can still think of a few "moderators" who would rather do something and not let us know about it though, then complain when it's mentioned... I blame it on today's kids' lack of intellect.:wink0st:

Dateline, meet CycloneFanatic...

for the record a lot of those comments in that thread are still up ... yet I see a certain snowpantted superhero got a silly wisecrack taken down inexplicably.

its not so much the deletions - I have a couple of moderator posts I'd like to delete myself - its the disparity in what is deemed inappropriate.

I've posted for a while now and just this last couple weeks is the first time its become a real issue.

I meant the not so painfully obvious. I had about a 90% assurance I'd get reprimanded for that one.

P.S. Sheep are "cuddly" :rolleyes5cz:

If you have an issue with a post, by any member, Mods and Jeremy included, report it. Use the red X located in the lower left hand area of the offending post and let your feelings be known. Either the post will be removed/edited or you will receive a PM explaining why an action may not have been taken.

Remember, there are a large amount of posts on this site and a few offending ones will get through.

Also, if you have any concerns about a deleted or edited post, contact the Mod that did it or contact Jeremy. You'll get a response.

Wow, clones_jer, the apocolypse must be arriving because we've agreed TWICE in the same thread. :baffled5wh:

Well, it's fairly hard to determine who that was without the moderator letting us know...

Then contact Jeremy Lind about it then. Most deletions are Soft Deletes with the Mod's name and message noted.

I think we're talking about complete deletions, and not edits. The editing thing is easy to tell who has done what to a post. If I post something, and it gets deleted, I have no information from the moderator that deleted it in regard as to why it was deleted. That's what bugs me. At least let me know why it was deleted, or else don't be surprised when it happens again. If I would have actually received a warning that said "You can't say that again, or it will get deleted," it wouldn't be a problem. Instead, it's just that I realize something is gone, with no explanation as to why, and no clue as to what I may have done to break the site's rules.
